The second structure is up, this time in Natick (outside the library). “A Home for Future Generations” continues to take shape as we bring this installation to a new community. Just like in Framingham, our team built the wall sections in our shop and assembled them on site, creating a space for both artists and community members to leave their mark.
Murals are underway, shingles are being painted, and the vision is coming to life, one small action at a time.
Thank you to artists @csekojuliaand and @raquelfornasaro , and Director of Sustainability for the town of Natick Jillian Wilson-Martin for your insight and collaboration!
For this mural I’m using phrases from What if We Get it Right? by the brilliant @ayanaeliza - this awesome book is filled with information about the climate crisis but also a loving approach to the abundance of solutions out there. The truth is if we move past the fear mongering narratives there’s a lot of work to be done and a myriad of attainable ways each of us can contribute to lowering carbon emissions.
More soon!
Thank you so much to @byggmeister for expertly building these structures!
Thank you to the @officialframinghamma and @townofnatick for the support and the warm welcome!
Funded by the sponsors of Mass Save through a Community Education Grant, the City of Framingham and the Town of Natick have invited us to design and lead two complementary, participatory public art projects (one in Framingham and one in Natick. The pieces are centered on the role each of us plays in achieving greenhouse gas emission reduction in our homes and buildings. This participatory public art project amplifies the importance of collective action towards a more sustainable future.
A Home for Our Future Generations uses creativity to spark environmental awareness through two home-shaped public installations in Natick and Framingham that invite people to approach sustainability as an attainable goal.
Two 8×8 ft walls hold interior murals on energy conservation, while the exterior becomes a community-made mosaic of painted shingles created in over thirty workshops across Framingham and Natick. The shingle wall mosaic features data exemplifying an “Energy Conservation Journey.” The project addresses energy conservation steps in a home, such as installing insulation, window upgrades, heat pumps, efficient appliances, and solar energy to lower carbon emissions. An AR component connects viewers to incentives and expert guidance, empowering and encouraging community action toward a sustainable future.

On view until May 8th. Ideas to Postpone the End of the World is titled after the book by renowned Indigenous activist Ailton Krenak and features works from the “Speaking Truth to Power “ series by Julia Csekö, which highlight writings by women, BIPOC, Latinx, and LGBTQIA thinkers who interrogate power structures and systemic injustice. In the RSM Gallery, Csekö draws from texts by Hannah Arendt, Julian Assange, Angela Davis, Diane di Prima, Roxanne Dunbar Ortiz, Paulo Freire, and Ailton Krenak. The artist’s interlocked color blocked shades draw in the viewer and disrupt linear narratives, while the playful letter spacing creates ambiguities that slow down visual reading and provide opportunities for critique and dialogue. 📸 @danthemanphoto
