“Growing up in New York, being #Latino, you think about community, you think about how we do things together. This is an easy way to really impact our community. By the time these students graduate, this can be a real life-changing amount of money and an investment in the future…. This is shaping minds and changing lives,” shares
@ps119x alum Marco A. Carrión in conversation with ABC7NY Tiempo anchor
@joetorresabc7 . For two years and counting, Marco has led #NYCPublicSchoolAlumniCommunityScholarships for the students at his elementary school. Along with NYC Public School Alumni across the city, he is contributing funds to students’ NYC Scholarship Accounts and shaping their ideas about what’s possible for college and career.
@csd7bx Superintendent Padilla shared how these investments are part of building a powerful foundation for students to pursue their dreams across Community School District 7 in the South Bronx, where “financial literacy is part of our promise to students starting in kindergarten.”
Thank you to Joe Torres (also a NYC public school alum who attended P.S. 198 in Brooklyn and whose mom taught in NYC Public Schools!) for leading an in-depth conversation that speaks to the interconnectivity in our neighborhoods — illustrating how schools, families, and communities can come together to invest in the next generation. And thank you to Marco A. Carrión and Superintendent Padilla for each working to create possibilities for NYC students and families. Kids become what they see, so when NYC Public School students see new opportunities for the future modeled by people who share neighborhood roots, they can believe it. If they believe it, they can become it.
