Excerpt of a Ponder on Trees:
(Trees have such a special place in my heart. I spent a good deal of my life in the desert. Whenever we went to the park or LA to visit family, I’d always draw trees. My Grandfather had the most beautiful variety of trees he grew himself. It seems so far away now. The fruits they bore, my grandfathers smile. I always stare at a them wonder how long they’ve stood there. I imagine the race the branches had towards sunlight. How leaves react to the wind. Seeing faces in the bark at night. Resting my head on its roots. Being startled by ants. Reaching towards the sky on top of one as a child. Imagining always to live in one someday. Fallen ones on a deep hike resemble fallen beasts. The echo they make when you clang one. Even holding a two by four. I always look for the eyes on the wood imagining where the branch once was. My Pop planted one back in the day. Whenever I’m back in town I always drive past and check on it. A certain peace I feel when I see it growth and notice my own.)
