“Disability justice advocates point out that the burden of accessibility is often pushed onto disabled people themselves – presumed to be experts in all-encompassing access needs. How can accessibility be, instead of a specialised knowledge, a co-creative process of care?”

On March 6th, between 1PM and 2PM we have the pleasure of welcoming in our @royalacademyofart.thehague Karim Ali @thisiskarimali from the @gazasunbirds .
Karim Ali will be talking to our community about the importance and challenges of storytelling to spark change.
Gaza Sunbirds’ Co-founder & International Coordinator, Karim Ali is Palestinian-Cypriot raised in UAE and Jordan now London based. He launched the Gaza Sunbirds para-cycling team back in 2020 with Alaa al-Dali. He has seen the squad of 20 amputee athletes through establishing the team, overcoming immense obstacles such as Israel’s siege and genocide, delivering $400k of aid over the last fifteen months and evacuated Alaa to become the first Palestinian to race in the Para-Cycling World Championships.
A bit more on The Gaza Sunbirds. They are a para-cycling team facing the current realities of the Israeli attacks on the Gaza strip. The team of amputee athletes formed in 2020 with a dream of representing Palestine on the sporting world stage. Now, they have been forced to give up their training regime due to the Israeli bombardment, instead turning their attention to supporting their local community. Over the past months, they have been risking their lives on one leg to distribute $420+ USD worth of food and supplies in Southern and central Gaza.
Last year, team captain Alaa al-Dali was evacuated to fulfil the Sunbirds dream of flying the flag in a global arena, to spread awareness for Palestine and to send out a message of hope. In September, he made history as the first Palestinian to ever race at the second largest Para-cycling event: the UCI World Championships.
We look forward to welcoming you to the lecture in the KABK Auditorium, March 6th, 1PM - 2PM.
And we thank @cripthecurriculum of the @rietveldacademie for facilitating the event!

Last winter @cripthecurriculum extended an invitation to us to be a part of a programme titled "A Body is a Host" that they co-curated with the Studium Generale 2024 -25 at @rietveldacademie and we were more than happy to share our ideas and our work and to be in the company of some wonderful speakers.
The title of our talk is LEAVE SICK LEAVE, which is going to take place both online and in person at the Theory Stairs in the Rietveld Academie campus in Amsterdam (NL). The session will be moderated by Pernilla Manjula Phillip @pennanilla and Menko Dijksterhuis @menkod .
LEAVE SICK LEAVE
“Sick” as an adjective so universally used for degeneration is also repurposed in English slang to mean, ‘cool’ or ‘amazing’. In this lecture, Resting Museum, will be deliberating upon several interconnected ideas from their art and research practices, particularly of the term ‘sickness’ in contexts of culture, institutional labour, and protest. This also draws from Shreyasi and Priyanka’s experience as an archivist in a design archive, and pedagogue at a research university, respectively. Resting Museum is interested in ableisms, both linguistically and infrastructurally, and the formation of certain ‘publics’ physically and virtually through practices of sitting, resting, and participating together.

What a start of the year. Extremely excited to share that the Fuck Healing (?) collective will have a little conversation at Rietvelt Academie on the 29th of January.
Fuck Healing (?), or How We’re Going to Totally Rest, Chill, and Talk With Each Other About Collecyive Practices of Ongoing Care.
This lecture will take the form of a long table discussion, including members of the Fuck Healing (?) collective in conversation with invited artists, curators, and participants of the collective’s events as well as the larger audience of Studium Generale. Two conceptual operations will lead the discussion. Firstly, the process of wounding and living a wounded life: how it can be activated through theoretical/artistic practices to resist normative conceptions of trauma and illness not as repressive/repressed states, but as generative and affirmative forces. Secondly, the psycho-social procedures of exhaustion: how it can be actualised as an affective potentiality for alternative collective modes of existence.
