Starting tomorrow (8/16) - September 15, 2024 YBCA will be hosting my youth's art created during Creative Seeds (
@creativeseedsofactivism ) as part of their “Art, Action, Change” show which is FREE to the public upon registration (link in my bio)!
Having had the opportunity to spend a year as a funded artist and pour myself into cultivating a new generation of printmakers has left me feeling deeply grateful. This opportunity allowed me to give back to my community in the same way that it helped transform me into the artist that I am today. I dedicated all of December 2024 - July 2024 into planning and executing all aspects of my program, from outreach, curriculum development, coordinating, teaching, etc.
It felt magical to see the way the youth I worked really develop and grow into self functioning printmakers and to see how they grew more confident in talking about very complex social political issues. I feel very grateful to have had the 10 youth I worked with as they each reminded me of younger parts of myself, each of them so smart and talented in their own unique ways. I also loved seeing the way that they learned and utilized my printmaking habits while also pushing this medium further by experimenting without fear.
I enjoyed learning from them just as much as I loved passing down all the knowledge that I have learned on this path as an artist and activist. From seeing the way they integrated the topics we talked about in class, to how they would research further, to then developing work that was artistically beautiful and powerful.
I will continue to look for ways to come back to this project and create more spaces for youth to learn about art and activism, but for now please check out their work at YBCA if you have the chance!!!
