The weekend . Took a trip to the Malvern Spring Festival. Lots of flowers (sorry didn’t a take a pick of one flower, my bad) so many stalls, nice people and too much temptation to buy things. I read The Great Unicorn Escape by Diane Ewen and it’s such a sweet follow on from The Great Unicorn Rescue.
This one really gets the sibling dynamic. Norrie just wants a calm day with her best friend, but Star is there too, full of energy, asking questions, and running ahead. You can feel that mix of love and slight frustration the whole way through.
They’ve already been told about a giant, so when Star runs off looking for baby dragons, Norrie is properly scared. In her mind, the giant is real and dangerous, which makes her panic feel completely believable.
And then, when they finally find the giant, it isn’t anything like they expected. I like that because it opens up a simple conversation about fear, and how sometimes we build things up in our heads before we really understand them.
But at the heart of the story, it really comes back to Norrie and Star. Even when Norrie feels annoyed, the love is still there. When things go wrong, her only instinct is to make sure Star is safe.
You really feel that in the ending too. Norrie pulls Star close and you can see how much she cares about her, even after all the chaos.
A really sweet one for little ones with siblings, especially if you’re talking about those mixed feelings that come with loving someone and being frustrated with them at the same time.

I wish mine did. Though recently we imposed a tidy bedroom being a prerequisite for pocket money. Only two of them cared.🤷♀️
Thankfully Kid Rex to the Rescue has come to my rescue! Playfully written by debut author @mayo.ao.writer and superbly illustrated by @creativedewen , the story follows Max - an ordinary kid with extraordinary dino powers.
What starts as a mission to clean Max's untidy bedroom becomes a mission to rescue the kidnapped citizens of Toy Town from the evil King Dust Bunny. The book is packed full of action, adventure and imagination.
Author Mayo will be my guest on #debutauthorspotlight live on IG at 12.30pm on Friday.
I can't wait to chat to him and find out more about his fantastic debut. Hopefully, all of my children will have tidy bedrooms by then too.

One month ago, so many amazing people came together at Carmelite house to help me and my wonderful illustrator, @creativedewen officially launch Kid Rex into the world. I want to thank everyone who came out that night and everyone who has supported the book since its publication. Seeing the love children and adults have had for this book truly fills my heart with joy.
This is just the start, there are many more adventures ahead and I'm glad to have you all with me as we go on them together!
