Today we explored The Garden in our journals, exploring colour, connection to nature, new growth and taking time to stand still. We’re all growing families. New growth is everywhere. Nature is busy and blooming. We took time to make connections and breathe in The Garden.
These sessions have been part of #CreativityandMotherhood supported by @tnlcommunityfund this was the last session in our year long programme as part of @mothers_onthemic #matrescence

A beautiful last session in my @creative_journalling series exploring matrescence Today we took inspiration from @beckybarnicomics to create comics strips and designed snakes and ladders boards documenting the little moments that lift us, knock us, make us laugh out loud or pee our pants.

This spring, join me for @creative_journalling to connect to your creativity using art, writing, poetry and discussion. Find rest, community and connection. Your journal will be filled with colour, stories and power. The course is designed for m/others, at all stages of pregnancy, m/otherhood and grandm/otherhood.

Deep gratitude to Hollie & Lily who continue to support Matrescence Festival and my parent-accessible gigs. Every time I do it I worry they’ll think I’m mad. But then I look around at all the amazing people who have shown up to listen, who support each other like sisters, and see people laugh and cry, and I think yep this work is worth doing and Im not mad, and instead I’m humbled.

Such a gorgeous way to spend a Saturday afternoon, thank you to all the mothers everyone who gathered round our ‘kitchen table’ to explore delicious memories, places to gather and recipes for our children, ourselves and the future. These workshops are a monthly oasis to come together, be creative, connect to our identities and stories as m/others and deeply listen to each other.
The Kitchen Table workshop includes a beautiful task written by poet and mother Shagufta K Iqbal commissioned by @mothers_onthemic for the @maternaljrnl community back in 2023 as part of @aceagrams supported project

This month we spent time connecting to and exploring our amazing matrescent bodies and the stories, colours, images, experiences held within. We created a gallery of amazing m/others, bathed in sound and took time for ourselves and our amazing bodies. The babes had a lovely time too.

A sea of blue…
This Saturday instead of Valentine red we explored our matrilineal line, maternal figures in our life, mothers in our community who support us, and looked to nature to explore the role of grandmothers in a whale pod. Grandmother whales are leaders, wisdom keepers, knowledgeable of survival. When there is a grandmother in a pod the pod thrives. Like humans whales go through menopause, which means they live much longer than the men. We explored how society sees menopause and the role of grandmothers in humans.
We asked ourselves, “What kind of grandmother would I like to be?”
What if in the future, grandmothers were the leaders in communities, government?

What a way to end the month! It was such a pleasure to collaborate with @ceribakerflow bringing yoga and journalling together to support m/others, introducing a practice of rest and space making. Our theme was landing. January has been a long, dark month.
