Been offline for awhile due to (see below)... Meanwhile... I'm learning growing healing and have lots to share about this journey. But for now, I'm all IN focussed on my recovery. BUY MY ART BY MY heART Sensitive news: I've recently been in a nearly catastrophic accident, getting hit by a cab while riding my bike in May, sustaining 8broken ribs with14fractures. I had a punctured lung and cracked sacral bone too. No head injuries thank gahd. I've had a tremendous journey sp far and the realistic recovery period is actually 6-9 more months! I am unable to work and the road ahead remains long, slow, and painful. My twin sister flew in from LA to walk through this epic trip all the way. She can work remotely and her boss and team at work fully support her being here. I'm a Multidisciplinary performance, visual and transformative artist and I can not work for the next several months. Hopefully, now I can truly rewire the neuro-muscular glitches, equilibrium and dexterity issues that progressed sharply over the last year. sO! I'm harvesting positivity and imagining optimal outcomes! Happy to share more about it while we artify and spend quality time together. Come! Make Art and Take Heart! ACUTE PHASE OF RECOVERY CONTINUES … 🌻 We had our 6-week check-in with superhero surgeon, Dr. Hammouri, who reminded us that the ACUTE PHASE of her spinal surgery recovery is 3 MONTHS. Phys. therapy, fitness & strength are secondary to the stabilization of her spine & neck. This surgery was a major reshaping of 3 vertebrae, then insertion of spacers, followed by the hardware holding it all in place. The muscles & nerves around her spinal column are still adjusting to this new config. So, while Elisa can move about & walk, her endurance in being upright has limitation. She’s experiencing new sensations, incl. significant, constant pain in the back right side of her neck. She can’t tilt, turn, or touch it; it’s like a Charlie Horse spasm on that side, w/intermittent electrical surges on the left. 😳! Dr Hammouri assured her that it’s all part of the process of her spinal musculature re-acclimating to her spine’s new hardware & architecture. What this means is that Elisa is unable to work for a longer time than anticipated, in particular the more physically demanding things she does to pay rent and basic expenses. So, we still need $$ support to get her through the next 2 months of recovery. Heavy is the head that sits atop a new spinal column! Didja know that our necks are perpetually supporting approx. 10 lbs of weight, just standing still?! So Elisa still periodically uses the soft neck brace for relief throughout the day & night. On the positive side o’ tings, Elisa walks short distances every day, and we find balance b/w activity and restfulness as prescribed by Dr. Hammouri. The incision is healing well, Elisa can now sneeze & yawn without pain, and she can eat all the things she enjoys! Lastly, in full-circle energy, Elisa was invited to be in a 10-min play festival where the performance just required her to sit at a table—and be HILARIOUS. The transformational healing of Art came in perfect timing, as a re-Minder of Elisa’s inner strength & fortitude to move towards her fullest expressions.
