A beautiful shoutout from the wonderful @yolandabrown on @jazzfmuk yesterday. Such special words.
I got sent this snippet from someone who swims at the women’s ponds and sings in the community choir I host there. I needed to pinch myself yet again that a song @ivana.june and I wrote back in 2023 has had this magical life force and continues to sprinkle its message to the world.
In September my beloved grandma passed. She is so special to me and no words will ever be able to express the loss or pain felt in her absence. She was a singer, performer, piano player and the reason I ever took to music in the first place. I still remember the feeling of leaning my back against her piano and drifting off into this musical slumber that she cast with her timeless voice. I hear her in every song and every note, and none of this would have been possible without her guidance, love for music and passion for passing that on. Not only did she swim through till the end, but throughout our relationship she taught me how to sing through life. Though the show now goes on, it doesn’t without her, for she is still watching in the wings and I’ll channel her gift every day with her by my side in whatever form that now takes.
So to Grandma, and everyone who continues to make this dream possible and all involved in this songs journey, thank you, and whatever comes your way, you know what to do #swimthrough
