RAGEBAIT — This Friday 28.11, 19:00!
We are delighted to welcome you to skēnē this Friday, where we will show the play RAGEBAIT as part of the programme for Oda Haugerud’s exhibition Guinness World Records Audio Guide to Her. The play is written by Maddie Kuzak and will be performed by Kuzak, Haugerud and Dr. Fuck. Looking forward!
RAGEBAIT began with the title. In conjunction with Haugerud’s exhibition, RAGEBAIT is a collaboration between Haugerud and Kuzak. Two noise rockers as well as visual artists, Haugerud and Kuzak are interested in applications of shock value and transgression in musical subculture. Rage bait is a term originally used to describe provocation to garner engagement on social media, but can be retroactively appropriated to describe any performance that is contingent on sustaining an environment of provocation. RAGEBAIT is a play about the social media phenomenon, in the tradition of performances defined by audience provocation predating social media such as the Grand Guignol, punk rock, WWE wrestling and tabloid talk shows. RAGEBAIT is dedicated to Lisa Carver, aka Lisa Suckdog, a singular writer, and a playwright and performer of transgressive operas, one of which Kuzak toured with in 2016.

“Les Morphinomanes”, the first time I think my conceptual practice has crossed over into my painting/drawing. I have a compulsion where I destroy my drawing and paintings by hyper focusing on a stupid little detail the point where I fuck up the entire painting or erase through the paper. I must be a little addicted to the shame I feel afterwards. Anyways I fucked up this drawing and instead of finding a way to patch it back together I “murdered” it. I abused it with various objects like sandpaper and rags. And then I found the shittiest frame in my closet, so shitty I got splinters putting the drawing in it. Here’s my shame.

Last summer I helped with @shelleyuckotter ’s meta movie project, in particular helping with wardrobe/hair/make up. The story takes place in the 70s and involves some acid casualty culty freaks interrupting a hedonistic gathering of bourgeois nyers. You already know I had the time of my life compiling references & making a character sheet for the freaks & the hipsters. We went upstate to film & I found out 95% of filmmaking is waiting for camera and lights. It was so fun being a part of a project with a ton of multi-talented people. I can finally post now that the culmination of the project, Shelly’s paintings of the film, are about to be shown in LA! 🖤🖤🖤
