Apartment 13 is pleased to present artist Baijun Chen @_bye6__ (b. 1998, Guangzhou China) who is a prolific artist, designer and arts organizer based in Providence, RI. She is the co-runner of the Apartment 13 programming. “Confetti” is the first solo show of Baijun’s work since her exhibition “Back to Back” at Triest (NYC) in 2022. Confetti is a survey of her work from 2023 to present. Press release by Joshua Keonaona Yamauchi Boulos: Baijun works to preserve the integrity of morbidly obsolescent things. Confetti is a thoughtful presentation of Baijun’s work from the past three years. In this period, she has set up a studio practice in her childhood apartment in Guangzhou, China and has been working extensively at home in Providence, RI. This show especially features new work made in Guangzhou from late December 2025 to February 2026 which span handmade toys, hand casted mini bricks to custom ordered signage. The line between what is meticulously worked on thoroughly for months and bought from a store is hard to distinguish and it is in this confusion between bedroom and toy store, something emerges. It is the feeling that someone has walked in only whenever u weren’t there, u can still feel the electron afterglow resonating in the mysterious presence. This being said, the abundance of detail in the work, the subjects, the mystery of her care is loud, the homies been waiting for this one. I hope you enjoy this show! Temu merchandise becomes as clever and complex as a Dadaist readymade, Fiverr privatizes exploitation and makes you your own CEO, and many print-on-demand customization services have perfected the Prosumer model of the User, flattening them into Content Creator and Audience simultaneously. With this, the Artist recedes, becoming less and less distinguishable from the User, and the User less and less distinguishable from the Manufacturer of their own algorithmically influenced personal brand. The algo drives the human creative instinct into feedback loops of memetics and Slop within an imagescape defined by the overproduction of anachronisms and cyclical trend-based nostalgia, creating an image-rich, materially-poor world unable to produce its own futurity.[…]” Dm for inquiries/work list*
