Counting is directly tied to reading rhythms. Counting is important for subdividing, maintaining time, and interpreting written rhythms.

Regardless of the principal instrument, the ability to clap rhythms will result in greater understanding and, ultimately, improved rhythmic integrity.

Foot tapping is an age-old practice for maintaining time. Combined with counting and clapping, this practice of keeping the pulse independently of the written rhythms helps to anchor the performance.

Here’s another exercise that reinforces both fundamentals and rhythmic transitions. #musicians #rhythm #practice #musiclessons #musiceducation #drummer #drumeducation

Here’s an example of gaining control of a simple subdivision transition. In this video I am counting triplets while clapping an exercise that is based around quarter notes and triplets. My feet are tapping the underlying quarter note. I am using the @countclaptap rhythm method for this in conjunction with @synkd_app #musicians #musiceducation #musiceducator #drummer #rhythm #practice #practicemakesperfect #musicpractice #drumeducation

Internalizing every aspect of this rhythm. I’’m counting the sixteenth note subdivision, tapping the quarter note to maintain time, and clapping the written rhythm in unison with @synkd_app for this @countclaptap exercise built around transitioning between upbeat eighth notes and sixteenth notes. You can download the new Count Clap Tap rhythm pack and educational e-Book within the SYNKD app. #countclaptap #synkd #musiceducation #rhythmtraining #readingmusic #musicteacher #musiclessons
