SEVEN YEARS FEELS LIKE A LIFETIME.
Even though I’d known and played with @duffmckagan for a really long time at the time this was recorded, this was the first time I’d ever played bass with him. I was pretty nervous, if I’m honest.
I’d been making videos by myself and with a couple guests on my couch at home in Brooklyn but this video kinda kick started it and, essentially, got me in front of folks as a bass player instead of a guitarist. It’s all ended up working out pretty good for me, too!

Have You Watched Twenty Four Hours Yet?
Couch Riffs recently upped the ante on our cover song format and tracked a live Joy Division cover at Temple of the Trees in Seattle. The song features Jefferson Angell (Walking Papers), Tony Reed (Mos Generator), Bill Patton (Loose Wing/J. Tillman), and Mike Squires (Ugly Kid Joe/Duff McKagan). Joe Reineke engineered the recording and Don Gunn mixed this glorious racket. The film footage was shot by Ryan Cory and Konstantine Komarov and edited by KK. What evening celebrating the music of 1971 would be complete without a song from John Lennon’s Imagine album? Jefferson Angell joined us for a couple songs that night and the first song he gave us was Jealous Guy, a classic for the ages.

Sure, the more popular version of Angel From Montgomery was recorded by Bonnie Raitt and released in 1974 but the original recording by John Prine was released in 1971, the year we were celebrating the night of this performance. I hope you actually see this!

The Music Of 1971 night was full of amazing singers and musicians and we were fortunate to have Stephanie Anne Johnson join us for a couple tunes that brought the house down. This one, Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together, got us warmed up. We’ll be posting her 2nd song soon!
