Friends, Romans, countrymen, I am here once again asking for your support with my new venture @ndulgent 🎂🧁🍰 🍪😍😋 🙌🏾 Wait a minute, I know this sounds crazy but hear me out🤦🏾‍♀️...soooo despite never baking a cake in 36.5 of my 37 years, somehow (well actually I know exactly how but that's a somewhat embarrassing story for another day 🤦🏾‍♀️) I've become a *cough* baker... of sorts (feels wrong even saying that 😬)... but nonetheless I've been baking for the last few months and having lots of fun with it! Far from perfect but learning everyday thanks to lovely friends who have been trusting me to bake cakes for their occasions... or non-occasions (cake is an occasion in and of itself really). 🙌🏾😁🍰 Burning questions❓No, I'm not mumu enough to give up my good-up management accounting job (up for promotion atm actually 🤞🏾🙏🏾); yes, I'm still freelance writing (for very limited clients only so don't ask); yes, I'm still holding it down as a single mom of 2; and yes, I still have an active social life... BUTTTT amidst the madness, I still make time for baking because it's fun...for now at least (don't know about later but life is fluid so watch this space)! 🤷🏾‍♀️😆 So please FOLLOW my page @ndulgent to follow my journey! Soooo I did a really exciting (entirely by my standards lol) thing for my birthday this year! I was bold enough to ask my WhatsApp followers to tell me one thing they like about me and one thing I should work on in the year ahead! 😬 While on the surface this may seem somewhat narcissistic ("please tell me why you love me "🥴) it genuinely was a chance to collect feedback and insights from loved ones on how I can become a better version of myself 💎. Why? Because if we ain't trying to grow in life, baby what is we doing?? 🤨🤷🏽‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️💁🏾‍♀️ ANDDDD receiving actual feedback (I was skeptical anyone would respond because who am I to tell you what to write lol) was the highlight of my day, although I did have an otherwise amazing birthday surrounded by family, friends and a flood of thoughful greetings and well wishes 🍰🎁🚴🏾‍♀️🍲🦐! Anyway, the point of this post is really #1 to let you know that I'm alive and well as I haven't posted in 3 years (I've been busy/phone battery died... whichever you prefer 😬), and more importantly to encourage you to try a similar exercise when your birthday comes around. It's really nice to hear what people value most about you...especially since you won't be able to read it on your funeral booklet 💀 Jk... kinda. But being serious, you likely don't have full visibility of all your strengths (and we're often particularly blind to our flaws) and the way they impact others, so it's good to take stock occasionally. The way I see it, all feedback (good or bad) is positive because you can use all of it for good! 3 years ago (on August 19th) I spent my birthday on a flight across the Atlantic with 2 kids to boldly establish a new life in a country I'd never even visited. My birthday was not marked by cake, champagne, a fancy dinner or gifts, just terrible airline food and 'stiff neck'. But allowing 'my day' to just pass by quietly was so easy that I've happily allowed it to disappear. Not unlike every other part of my identity, I allowed my birthday celebrations to be absorbed into my son's birthday celebrations on August 22nd instead, while I spent my day enjoying Netflix and chicken fried rice. That was fine for the time; BUT with the help of an old friend, a new friend, and my mom, this year I TOOK MY BIRTHDAY BACK and I felt alive!!!! This year I WILL strive to be more intentional about maintaining a separate identity as a WOMAN, rather than being consumed by the title of MOM. ‼ Let me start by saying that I'm not against the COVID-19 vaccine, or getting vaccinated generally. Neither do I buy into the crazy conspiracy theories that are devoid of logic or fact. However, I am pretty sickened by the attitudes of some towards those that have not (YET) come forward to be vaccinated! If you've signed up already, congratulations, and I'm happy that you've found peace in making that decision. But please respect those that choose to hang back for a bit because the decision isn't as simple for them. . Let's not trivialize their reluctance by pretending that the narrative and 'facts' about COVID-19 haven't changed a few times in the past year. Remember when it could only affect those with pre-existing conditions? Let's also not pretend that every vaccine introduced to the world has been without incident. Understand that information, the lack of information and false information all register with people in different ways and influence their choices and perspectives differently as a result. . Although I may likely choose to vaccinate (in my time), please understand for these and many other reasons, some persons will exercise caution before making that decision. Please give them time to decide for themselves what they want for their bodies without judgement, ridicule or exclusion. Whether they will accept the real risks of remaining unvaccinated, or accept what they perceive to be the risks of taking a new vaccine... it is their choice. What seems real to you may not be what is real to me. Stop the peer pressure and borderline bullying. Then we expect our children to be respectful, tolerant and accepting of difference. 😏 .
