📣(2/2 NEW BUSINESS ANNOUNCEMENTS) Today is a big day in downtown Providence, RI! We already announced that @murmurhifi will be coming soon to PVD–peep our last post, if ya missed it–and now we have a second super exciting new business announcement to share… This winter, please help us welcome @phedphedpvd , a new Thai restaurant at 71 Washington Street! This restaurant is a new concept from Chef X and Chef Kazu, the team behind @toritomo_pvd , @warawaraprovidence , @khaosanri , and @whiteowlpvd . The restaurant will open in the space directly adjacent to the existing Tori Tomo, on the corner of Union Street and Washington Street. And, even cooler, Phed Phed will be connected to the existing Tori Tomo space with newly opened passages between the two restaurants. This means: - A completely new Thai menu from Chef X (who hails from Thailand) - A full bar program - The ability to order off either menus in both Phed Phed and Tori Tomo We can’t wait for Phed Phed to open! Stay tuned for more info at phedphedpvd.com and read more in the link in our bio at indowncity.com. 🍚 🍍 #downtownprovidence downtown providence food #providencerhodeisland providence rhode island restaurants #thaifood thai food in rhode island #indowncitypvd

📣 (1/2 NEW BUSINESS ANNOUNCEMENTS) Today is a big day in downtown Providence, RI! We have *TWO* new business announcements that we have quietly been sitting on… First up, please help us welcome Murmur HiFi Bar (@murmurhifi ), Providence’s first listening bar! Murmur is slated to open at some point during Winter 2025-2026 at 276 Westminster Street. Murmur–owned by Robert Troutman and Allison Johnson–is a high fidelity, analogue listening lounge, inspired by Japanese jazz kissatens from the 1920’s; these jazz coffee shops were designed to enhance music listening and appreciation while providing a sonically superior space for guests to enjoy music, drinks, and food. (Is this a match made in heaven?!) Plus there are some familiar faces behind the bar and in the kitchen: @_cparkerl will be the bar manager and beverage director, while the izakaya and yakitori-style food (think skewers! Dumplings! Sandos!) will be crafted by North alum Samantha Kundrat. Please give @murmurhifi a warm welcome and read more at the link in our bio at indowncity.com. 🎶 🍸 #providence #providencerhodeisland providence rhode island bars #downtownprovidence downtown providence restaurants #pvd pvd bars #indowncitypvd indowncity news

We met up with Buff Chace, a core member of our local host committee and the Managing Partner of @cornishassociates , to learn about the revitalization and economic development of Providence’s historic downtown since the first charette in 1991. Over 30 years later and with the help of project partners like @wearedpz , @cityofprovidence , @dbvwarchitects , @unionstudioarch and @providencerevolvingfund , it is now a vibrant neighborhood. Buff is a true champion of Providence and @cnu_newurbanism and we’re so glad he will be leading a tour at #CNU33!

The historic Trayne Building was built in 1893 as an investment property for three women, Alice B. Trayne, Elizabeth Trayne and Annie B. Hale. The building remained in their families until 1954, when this photo was taken, showing the building undergoing major renovations, including a new facade. In 2021, Cornish, working with @unionstudioarch , completed the most recent renovations to the property adding a 20 foot addition to the east. Today the first story is home to @oberlin_pvd and @gifthorsepvd , with 17 apartments on stories 2-5. For more historic timelines and photos visit our website projects through the link in bio.

Located in one of the few new construction projects we’ve completed in Providence, @oberlin_pvd expanded last year into the ground floor of this 4-story addition to the historic Trayne building. The dining room, pictured here, opens up to the outdoor heated patio with 40+ feet of operable windows and views onto Grant’s Block park. There’s nothing else like it in downtown. If you haven’t been to this location, you must! The food, the staff, the ambience - it’s all beautiful. And if you’re looking for a NYE plan, look no further. They are offering a tasting menu inspired by past trips to Sicily. A unique opportunity you won’t want to miss, trust us. (You’ll need to make a reservation on their website.) Wishing everyone a happy holiday and new year! 🥂

The William Wilkinson Building, built in 1888 and renovated by Cornish and @dbvwarchitects in the early 2000’s. Renovations were completed in 2004 and included the conversion of stories 3-5 from offices to residential, with the addition of 12 apartments. The 1st and 2nd story, originally the home of Edward Almy & Co, later became the long term home of the Lerner Shops, from 1935 to 1999. Today, the ground floor is home to @providenceoptical and @craftland with @westminsterlofts above.
