My @corningmuseumstudio residency has come to an end! The last two weeks were a whirlwind of testing, making, finishing and packing. I’m heading home with a whole load of new colour tests, ideas and directions and feeling very grateful for the time I got to spend here, alongside the constant support from the whole studio team.
It all finished last night with the opening of 'Tough Stuff', an exhibition celebrating women in American studio glass, which felt like a pretty special way to end these two months — surrounded by the women who paved the way for people like me ❤️
Here are three reasons to book your Make Your Own Glass project soon 👀⬇️
1️⃣ May 17 is the last day to make our Glass of Architects ornament, inspired by Vienna, 1900–1937 and our 2018 exhibition Dig Deeper, which explored modern architecture through glass. 🔎
2️⃣ Starting May 18, we’re launching the Ancient Glass Sculpture project, where you can create a glass souvenir inspired by objects from 350–400 CE. 🤭
3️⃣ And Members—you can make the Gold Optic Twist ornament anytime. It’s available year‑round! 🌟
Be a part of CMoG’s year of milestones and make your own glass! ❤️ Spots are limited, so reserve yours at the link in our bio.

The Studio turns 30 this month, and three decades have gone by in the blink of an eye! 🥹
As we celebrate this milestone, we’re reflecting on the people, stories, friendships, and creative energy that shaped The Studio into what it is today. ‘The Studio at 30: Shaping the Future of Glass since 1996,’ presented in the Burke Room for Ideas in Glass, brings together works by students, instructors, and resident artists exploring growth, experimentation, tradition, and transformation through making.
We’re especially excited to feature @sibelley , alongside many other remarkable makers, in this exhibition at The Studio. Sibelley’s featured work, ‘The Raindrop That Falls from the Sky, Yet never Touches the Ground,’ is one of many pieces highlighting the depth, curiosity, and creativity nurtured within this community over the years. 🌧️💛
Join us for the Opening Reception on May 24 from 5:30–7:30 pm at The Studio! The event is free and open to all, with light refreshments and a cash bar available. Link in bio for more information!
Want to learn more about The Glassmaking Institute at The Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass? Join us virtually for our first info session of the year on Friday, May 8, from 5-6pm.
These Zoom sessions will provide attendees with a chance to learn more about the program and ask questions directly to our staff at The Studio!
The Glassmaking Institute is a two year program that is the first of its kind in the US, it will take international students, and be focused on skills-based learning. Students within the program will attend six studio classes per week, including flameworking, kiln forming, and cold working.
Applications will open to US and international students on July 1, 2026, and close October 30, 2026. You can register for the info session at the link in our bio!
I’m so excited about this thing even though I don’t exactly know where it goes from here. So extremely grateful to @corningmuseumstudio for letting me spend the last 6 weeks messing around with ideas and processes.

We’re kicking off the start of another residency at The Studio! @dczeey joined us this week and they’re already making strides in the hot shop!
During their residency, Deborah will create sculptural lighting works that center joy as a radical act. Not as decoration, but as a way to hold onto resilience and survival. Using glass and building on their ongoing project, “Fruiting Bodies,” they turn something intangible into something visible.
Mark your calendars! Deborah’s Artist-in-Residence Lecture will be on Thursday, May 21 from 6-7pm in the Studio Theater!
Residency recap with @cheryl_wilsonsmith ✨
During her time at The Studio, Cheryl expanded her pâte de verre practice by allowing heat, gravity, and natural forces to interact with her gossamer‑fine layers of glass. Working alongside @giostudioglass_ and @kayleigh.sweitzer in the Hot Shop, this intuitive process transformed not only the appearance of her work, but also its emotional resonance—pushing her creative practice to places she never imagined possible.
“My residency at The Studio was simply the best. My experience was outstanding—truly an artist’s dream. The Studio had everything I needed, and if it didn’t, the staff knew exactly where to source it. The staff and glass community as a whole are incredibly skilled, generous with their knowledge, and supportive at every turn.”
We’re honored to have been a part of this transformative chapter in Cheryl’s practice.
