What an extraordinary weekend at MoMA Ps1 at our Block Party with @saintjamesjoy I’m reposting their joyful post with thanks to them and all of the amazing artists in Greater New York! Welcome to the many viewers who are new to our spaces. Great art, great community. Thanks to all who came through to celebrate 50 years!
Ralph Lemon accepts the 2025 ARTnews award Lifetime Achievement for “Ceremonies Out of the Air: Ralph Lemon” at MoMA PS1.
Never content to work in just one medium, Ralph Lemon spent the past three decades creating works that blur the divisions between dance, drawing, painting, installation, sculpture, and writing. He started out as a dancer and choreographer, operating the Ralph Lemon Dance Company for a decade before disbanding it in 1995 to focus on other artistic endeavors. Lemon sees his practice as being one of generative collaboration in which anything and everything can be a form of art-making.
Those pursuits, which first resulted in “Geography Trilogy” (1996–2004), would lead him to the American South, where he would meet Walter Carter, a former sharecropper from Mississippi. The work Lemon made with Carter and, later, his family, formed the crux of his MoMA PS1 exhibition, curated by Connie Butler and Thomas Lax. The show made the energy of Lemon’s practice feel palpable, which is a testament to its strength.

Last night we lost Aggie Gund, a longtime board member at MoMA PS1 and deeply generous supporter of the museum. Aggie has left an indelible mark on our institution.
I am honored to hold the title of The Agnes Gund Director, which honors the integral role that Aggie has played in shaping PS1 since its founding in 1976. She was beloved by every member of the arts community: from artists, to gallerists, to museum staff. She was also unwavering in her curiosity and intellect, as so many were lucky enough to experience.
Aggie was truly one of a kind and transformed what it means to be an arts collector, turning her attention and commitment to social justice in recent years. She will be deeply missed, and her impact on the arts and the cultural life of our city leaves an indelible legacy. I know that I am joined by every staff member, past and present, at MoMA PS1 when I say that we are wishing the very best to her wonderful family at this sad time.
Her legacy will live on through the kindness that she cultivated and the culture she helped to build.
We love you Aggie.

Though my pictures don’t do it justice, the new LACMA by Peter Zumthor is an incredible addition to the Los Angeles cityscape and Wilshire Boulevard’s Miracle Mile. It brings a landmark to the LACMA campus and units a collection of buildings that touch on all aspects of the city’s history, not least of which are the La Brea tar pits (great view!) Congratulations Michael Govan and all! Can’t wait to see what the art does inside.

We welcomed the kids back into the school house over the weekend for our first ever Family Festival: Make Your Own World, co-produced with the incredible Learning and Engagement team at MoMA. It was a fun, creative, music filled day with little makers all over PS1 making the building their own! Thanks to all of the artists who led workshops, the incredible MoMA PS1 facilities, operations, production, comms, security and visitor engagement teams for making it all run smoothly. And to the parents who came, we love you too!

What an incredible night at MoMA PS1 celebrating Kara Walker and Emily Wei Rales! Such an honor to hear their powerful words in support of artists, institutions and the platforms we all nurture and love. Eric Mack created a gorgeous setting and Don Christian Jones produced a celebratory afterparty for a rainy night full of warmth, hope and the power of coming together. Thank you to everyone who supported MOMAPS1 and all of the work we do!
