It’s Friday afternoon, and I’m en route to South Pittsburg for the National Cornbread Festival. I am, in fact, going to be a judge for the Lodge Cast Iron National Cornbread Cook-off, which is great news for me as a journalist who loves to read and write and learn about food, but also ironic since I have only ever made cornbread using the corn muffin mix from the blue Jiffy box (always topped with butter and honey). What day on Guntersville! @ewing_minor set a club record and to the best our knowledge kayak lake record with 108.25” to take the win. We had @joekirkfishing & @mikercheatham each measure up 100” stringers themselves. @cornbread_fest was a great to be a part of and @southpittsburg does an amazing job partnering. Our @cbnashville AOY race saw some major shifting as @jordan.lovejoy.fishing takes over the top spot on the road to $1,000! @snipermarinefish Big Bass went to Chris Walters with a giant 23.25”! We’ll be hosted on Pickwick next with @hardincountytn as part of the @billdancesignaturelakes & @billdancegiantbassopen @tnvacation

There’s something special about @cornbread_fest … the kind of place that doesn’t just welcome you in, it wraps you up in it. 🫶 Grateful for Kerri and Megan for making us feel like more than guests (truly like family). From the moment we arrived, it just felt easy, like we’d been there before. We loved getting a taste of that Tennessee soul and real Southern hospitality. Here are a few more snaps from @cornbread_fest Cook-off!! My dish was Okonomiyaki - Japanese Fusion Cornbread Cakes with Shrimp and Bacon. The requirements were to use at least 1 cup of cornmeal or cornbread mix and cook the dish in a @lodgecastiron skillet!! Donkey went to the Hooch at the Cornbread Festival to listen to his favorite local band, Priscilla and Little RicKee. What a great time. He highly recommends attending next year.
