We have some absolutely wonderful news to start the year! 😄🤩💫✨🌟💥🏆 Number 14! Wooohoooo! 🥳 This is now the fourth year we have made it into the Top 50 list alongside some incredible indie wine & spirit businesses. Thank you to those that nominated us, the judges @harperswine , to all our customers, importers, winemakers, distillers, brewers & the other indies we share this beautiful market with. Thanks for the kind words from Harpers about us. It is of course great to focus on the business side but it is the appreciation & understanding of how the team push things that always makes me so proud. “Given how many challenges and headwinds have faced the trade in recent times, it’s fair to say the standard of entries has never been higher, with drinks offers backed by much evidence of innovation, discovery, excellence and imagination in customer communication and interaction, plus much else besides.” “Cork & Cask have been busy driving its wholesale side forward by carefully tailoring an offer to their clients’ needs, the retail side of this popular Edinburgh fixture also hold bags of appeal. This indie champions a host of natural, organic and biodynamic producers, with an ever-changing global list of hand-curated wines, plus a great selection of whiskies and beers, all sold by a team that love to inspire.” Thanks so much! Pop in & see us soon for a celebratory high five! 🙌🏻 Jamie, India, Sam & Sandy

Woodrow’s of Edinburgh newest releases have caused quite a stir. 🥃🌾💥 It is great to see such interest & support for a local independent bottler who we have worked with for years now. Clynelish 10 Year Old is a classic Highland single cask with all the hallmarks of the distillery’s signature style, precise, waxy, and quietly complex, bottled in a pure, unadulterated form. Cambus 34 Year Old is a beautifully mature single grain, where long ageing has transformed a lighter spirit into something soft, complex, and quietly luxurious. Ben Nevis 18 Year Old is a robust, characterful Highland malt, shaped by long ageing and a measured sherry influence that adds depth without overwhelming the distillate. Glendronach 20 Year Old is a more restrained, quietly complex take on the distillery, where long ageing in refill wood allows spirit character to take the lead over cask influence. Please pop in for a chat & a taster if you’d like to work out your favourite. We have a great range of their whisky on the shelves currently & samples of: Glendronach 20 Cambus 34 Clynelish 10 Glenrothes 11 Campbeltown 10 Burnside 14 Tawny Port Burnside 14 Ruby Port Plus their Jane Street whisky releases. Thanks to Woody & Megan!

New and returning ciders & perries from one of our favourites, Wilding. We have four new releases. First, two ciders: Stoke Red, a single variety cider with bright acidity, classy tannins, and an elegant fruit profile that makes this Wilding’s favourite cider apple; and When the Fieldfares Come, a blend of bittersweet varieties that is easy going and fruity with good structure, perfect for sharing with an array of cheeses. Next, two perries: Moorcroft, a special perry that showcases the ideal growing conditions of 2022. It is sweet with a high ABV, weighty and bold, featuring aromas of honeydew melon, lychee, butter bun, and pear drops. Then there is November, a late harvest perry with notes of poached pear, dates, and wild gooseberries. Returning favourites include Wood for the Trees (a big hit last time!), Yellow Perry (the Vin Jaune-inspired perry), and finally Hive Mind (a fresh, bone-dry cider that is great for drinking with roast pork). 🍎🍐🍎🍐

DISCOVER A NEW REGION 🇪🇸🍇🍷 Ribera del Duero. Sip your way around the vineyards & along the river… This month we have been celebrating the wines of the Ribera del Duero in Spain. We have had free tastings every weekend to showcase red wines from this region. 🍷🍷🍷 The Tempranillo grape is at the heart of Ribera, but it is more than just the grapes at play in these fantastic wines. Ribera is producing diverse & terroir focussed wines of exceptional quality. 🌱 ⛰️ 🍇 This region is North of Madrid on the Duero river (this becomes the Douro when it flows into Portugal) it sees hot summers & cold winters. The days see a lot of sunshine while the nights get chilly as the vines are all planted at high altitude, this really helps with the grapes acid development & ripening of flavours & tannins. Expect lots of ripe black fruit, cassis, blackberry & plum flavours with a degree of vanilla, spice, leather & tobacco development depending how much oak aging the wine has seen. We have 4 organic wines in from this region at the moment, ranging from £17.95 to £28.95 from three family wineries. We highly recommend trying a wine from this region if you’re curious to see how Tempranillo can taste from outside its well known Rioja strong hold. They are great in all weathers & would accompany a BBQ as well as they would a Sunday Roast. @riberadelduerouk

Here’s how to spend a spring day in Marchmont… As part of #myshoplife26 here’s how I’d spend my day in my neighbourhood. 🛍️ Just a short walk from the castle there’s a quieter part of Edinburgh where you can get away from the crowds and relax in the local shops and cafes. So here’s what I’d do if I spent a day in Marchmont in spring. 🌸Check out the blossom on the Meadows 🧁Grab a treat from @sugardaddysedinburgh 🏡Pop into @marchmont_hardware for some homewares and treats for the furry ones 🐶😸 📚Spend time browsing the books at the @amnestybookshopedinburgh 🥗Grab the tastiest lunch @maraspicklery 🧣Design your own scarf @woolkind 🍷Grab a bottle of your favourite Pinot Noir @corkcask 🎨Paint your own pottery @doodlesceramicsworkshop ☕️Finish with some cake and a coffee (or Aperol! 🍹) @toast.marchmont
