I am incredibly proud of this remarkable young man I had the privilege of meeting him his early 20s in 2016, he had become deeply entrenched in a criminal mindset due to his involvement in serious youth violence as a teenager. When we first crossed paths, he firmly believed that change was impossible for him and that his circumstances would forever remain unchanged. He saw himself as a perpetual high-risk individual, trapped in a self-destructive belief system. However, through dedicated and intensive efforts spanning several months, including one-on-one sessions and group discussions on our Aspire Higher program co-written with my bro @christophersyrus , a remarkable transformation took place within him. Slowly but steadily, his mindset began to shift. Despite having been entrenched in this destructive pattern for a significant period, witnessing his journey has been nothing short of awe-inspiring. After serving a substantial prison sentence, he bravely embarked on a new chapter in his life, beginning in Jamaica. It is here that he has found solace and the opportunity for a fresh start. His story is one of immense power and resilience. He possesses extraordinary talents, and his future shines brightly in a place that before he wouldn’t believe possible. As I always say, one’s starting point does not determine their destination. No matter how far one may have fallen, there is always hope for rescue, forgiveness, redemption, and success. Today does not have to define tomorrow.
