The Middle East emergency has resulted in mass displacement with many families crossing borders - there’s a startling 250% increase in Syrians returning to the country from Lebanon for safety. But after 10 years of war and destroyed neighborhoods across the country, Syria has limited ability to receive people in need. Women and girls are always the most at risk in these situations and need more targeted support. CORE has already been working in Syria following the long war and is positioned to provide returning and displaced families, especially women-led families, with cash assistance to help them with urgent needs. The devastating Los Angeles wildfires ignited three months ago today, creating one of the worst disasters in California history. CORE has worked tirelessly to serve our most vulnerable community members during this crisis – powered by your generosity. Phase 1 of our emergency response focused on meeting people’s urgent needs: - $2 million in cash assistance given to nearly 9,000 families - 44,000 resources distributed, including N95 masks and hygiene kits - 25,000 people served But this is just the beginning. We have launched Phase 2 of our response, which consists of five strategic pillars to help rebuild the greater LA area over the next 5 years. This includes: - Cash Assistance: Providing $10 million total to the most vulnerable Angelenos - Resource Navigation & Disaster Case Management: Connecting people with local resources over both the short- and long-term recovery process - Debris Removal: Clearing the path for rebuilding, especially for the uninsured and underinsured - House Cleaning & Remediation: Helping families return to smoke-damaged homes safely, and distributing 25,000 air purifiers with the City of Los Angeles - Rebuilding & Community Resource Center: Creating a one-stop-shop for free goods and services in Altadena, where people can meet with experts to ensure rebuilding plans are fair, safe, and sustainable We are actively fundraising to support Phase 2.
