A few weeks ago I spoke to a group of high schoolers about careers in computational linguistics and AI, with a focus on our desperate need for more diverse perspectives in AI development. I also gave a brief introduction to how AI models like ChatGPT work. I think this stuff is important for everyone to be well-versed in, and I encourage folks to check out the slides and feel free to share them widely 💛 Knowledge is power. The story of how I started DJing is one of my favorites to tell people :: I'd been living in Taipei for over a year and had biked past 2manyminds SO many times before I finally, impulsively, went into the record store. That's how I met @spykeefat . He suggested I come out to the party he was throwing on Thursday nights at Korner right next door... and the rest is history, really! I tell people in the US that Spykee is my DJ mentor, and that crew raised me as a DJ. They were already growing something really special -- a space in Taipei that was distinctively Taiwanese. I'd never experienced anything like it. They weren't trying to cater to anyone or anything, and I heard everything from Hanson's Mmbop to UK drill, from Taiwanese golden oldies to the stickiest, breakiest techno and jungle in that space. The first night going out to Korner on a Thursday absolutely blew my mind. I wasn't a club kid growing up. I didn't know it was possible to go out somewhere and listen to that many different genres of music on a killer sound system, surrounded by people who also loved music and just wanted to have a good time. I'm so, so thankful for my family here in Taipei, and I'm so excited to be HOME! It's about to be a wild 2 weeks. 珊珊回家囉！！！🥰🪸🪸 我來開始當DJ的故事是我最愛告訴別人之一。我那時候已經住台灣一個多年了，騎腳踏車看著2manyminds好幾次才終於直覺停了車進去看看。那是我怎麼認識 @spykeefat 的。 他跟我講他禮拜四在旁邊Korner會辦一個趴踢，之下就是歷史了～ 我在美國都會叫Spykee我的DJ大師，那群真的把我培養成一個DJ～ 他們已經在種植一個很不一樣的地方，在台北很台的一個場地。我從來沒有經歷過類似的感覺。他們沒有特別為別人幹嘛，都真正的當人。在那邊什麼都有聽到，從Hanson的Mmbop到UK drill，從台語金曲歌到很棒的breaks跟techno和jungle。第一次去Korner我超級驚喜的。我之前在美國的時候不愛去club，當時沒想過有人會這樣出去在摸個地方跟好朋友用超棒的喇叭一起聽各種各類的音樂，大家都跟我一樣很愛聽音樂的，只想開開心心的過一夜。 我超級感恩又超開心的，因為終於有機會回來到我台灣的家。好愛你們，好期待接下來的兩個禮拜！！珊珊回家囉！！！🥰🪸🪸
