We are excited to announce that two of our projects have been shortlisted for the British Home Awards for House of Year 2023. There are only two categories for House of the Year and we are in the shortlist for both, along with four other fantastic houses. NO BRICKS WERE INJURED IN THE MAKING OF THIS ANIMATION. Accessibility is a focus area of our work at Kevin Kelly Architects. But not just physically: emotional and intellectual accessibility are essential also. It is vital that our clients and wider community member are able to join us on the design journey and understand the how and why we arrived at the design. Our Friendly Street project is in a conservation area in south London and so it was important to strike a balance between observing the existing, respecting the characteristics of the area and making progress with the new. It is often believed that because a building is listed or in a conservation area that the design cannot be contrasting and contemporary. This is not the case. A short ‘before and after’ series of our Friendly Street project. We were approached at a very early stage when our client was still looking for a property to buy that had lots of unlocked potential. We attended house viewings supporting our client in the process and were able to provide professional input. Soho Square, our office retrofit design, has been shortlisted as finalist for The Architects’ Journal Retrofit Awards as Best Workplace (under £5m). Focused upon universal design, the project is the comprehensive refurbishment and extension of a listed Georgian townhouse, located within one of London’s most prestigious locations – the Soho Conservation Area, overlooking the gardens of Soho Square. The scheme provides outstanding, contemporary Grade A workspaces whilst restoring many of the building’s original beautiful features.
