€14.6M in new funding has been secured for the @GreatGreenWallAfrica Initiative during #COP16Riyadh, accelerating progress across 22 African countries. This African-led effort aims to restore 100M hectares of degraded land, creating green, productive landscapes and transforming lives in the Sahel. The often overlooked production of textile fibres is a major driver of land degradation.The fashion industry is expected to use 35% more land by 2030, according to our latest report launched at @cop16riyadh , Fashion & Land: Unravelling the Environmental Impact of Fibres. But there are alternatives to traditional fibres! Fibres made from agricultural waste, such as orange peel or linseed oil, turn waste into resources. 250 million tonnes of fibre could be produced from 6 crops, more than the current global demand.
