The Şişman Han Caravanserai, Malatya.
Built on the historic caravan route near Şişman Stream, close to the Karakaya Dam Lake and the ancient Arslantepe Mound — a UNESCO World Heritage Site inhabited for over six thousand years. An east-west oriented structure, roughly cut stone on the exterior, rubble stone within, a courtyard opening onto the shelter section. One of the waypoints that made long-distance travel across Anatolia possible.
We stopped here on the Silk Road Caravan, moving east. The people who built this place were doing the same thing we are: connecting distant places, carrying knowledge across difficult terrain, making the route legible for whoever comes next.
