Double duty today at the studio! Had a great time playing bass as well as being in charge of capturing all the sounds and grooves for a project for @gsdmusicservices . You can’t go wrong with great musicians, fun mics and preamps, and a P bass!! 🕺🎙️🎸

Happy New Year!!! 🎆 2025 was quite a doozy for yours truly. The thing that remained constant was my appreciation for my friends and family and my gratitude for the support they give me. I am also so grateful for the people I get to play music with, and the fact that I get to play bass for a living. I have so much love for the musicians in my life and the people who trust me again and again to be a part of their lives and their art. Thank you to everyone I got to spend time with this year. I am so lucky to have so many amazing people in my life. 2025 was full of some incredible music and some incredible adventures! More of that, please! 🙏 It also presented some personal challenges. With these challenges, I have been forced to adapt and grow. I am still on that journey, but not alone because of my amazing friends and family. There are too many people to name individually, but to anyone and everyone who took the time to listen and give me support, and to all of my friends and colleagues in music, I say thank you, thank you, thank you. Onward and upward! ☺️ All of these pictures are from a walk in Mt. Washington today, right next to my neighborhood here in LA. It couldn’t have been a more beautiful day, and saying hi to neighbors and strangers who were wishing everyone a happy new year made it that much better. I am full of love, joy, and hope for the next year to come. And what can I say about these pictures except for, “Dang LA, you sure are pretty.”

A full-on sound exploration, dialing in tones and textures in real time.
Endlessly grateful to the producer Scott Litt for leading the session with such clarity and vision.
Shoutout to @victorjanacua for making it all come together behind the scenes — nothing happens without that kind of organization.

Rest in peace to Gary Karr. He was simply the best. Not only one of the best bassist the world has ever known, but one of the best people as well. I had the privilege of studying with him at his month long Karr camp for 3 summers when I was in college. Working with him was so inspiring. He was a caring teacher and showed time and time again that he cared as much about his students and those around him as he did about the music. The first picture was my first year of Karr camp when I was 18 years old. When I attended the following year, Gary decided to make the grand gesture of donating his beloved bass, now known as the Karr-Koussevitzky bass to the ISB. I lived in Denton, TX while attending UNT, and the ISB office was located in Dallas. He decided to trust myself and my friend, Bach Norwood, to transport the bass from Victoria, Canada to Texas where we could drop it off in Dallas. When I got back home, I called Madeline at the ISB and told her I had the bass. She said that she couldn’t do anything with it and to hold on to it while she could organize it to be picked up by one of the violin shops that worked with the organization. So while I was 19, I had the most famous bass on the planet live at my house in Denton, TX for a month! The other pictures are of me playing it, loving life, and thinking of my teacher. Gary was one of the greatest people I have met. He was generous, kind, smart, and loved a good joke. I will always be thinking of him whenever I pick up a bass or a bow. Harmon was also so kind, and getting to know him and play with him at the camps is something I will always cherish. I hope they are now joined again in the next realm. All the love to them, all of my fellow Karr campers, and all of the bass community whose lives he touched. RIP Gary Karr.
