Pakui Hardware is an artist duo formed by Lithuanian artists Neringa Černiauskaitė and Ugnius Gelguda in 2014. Their work explores the plasticity of bodies and their yet-to-be-discovered potential, examining how technologies expand, test, and regulate human corporeality. The duo represented Lithuania at the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. Their work has been presented in solo exhibitions at institutions including Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and MUMOK. They have also participated in major international exhibitions such as Performa Biennial, Bukhara Biennial, Istanbul Biennial, Baltic Triennial, and Biennale Gherdëina, as well as exhibitions at Centre Pompidou, Kunsthalle Basel, and MAXXI, among others. Studio Intakes 🌿 A glimpse into the studio of @Pakui_Hardware (LT) Pakui Hardware is the artist duo of Neringa Černiauskaitė and Ugnius Gelguda founded in 2014. Their collaborative practice explores the relationship between materiality, the body, and technology through sculptural and spatial installations. They have presented solo exhibitions at institutions such as Zachęta National Gallery of Art (Warsaw), BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art (Gateshead), and MUMOK (Vienna). In 2024, together with Marija Teresė Rožanskaitė (1933 - 2007) they represented Lithuania at the 60th Venice Biennale. Their work has been featured in international biennials including Performa Biennial, the Bukhara Biennial, Istanbul Biennial, the 13th Baltic Triennial in Vilnius, and Biennale Gherdëina (Italy). They have also participated in group exhibitions at Kunsthalle Basel, MAXXI Rome, the National Galleries in Prague and Vilnius, CAPC Bordeaux, and BOZAR Brussels. During the residency, PAKUI HARDWARE will trace the material infrastructures, transformations, and ecological footprint of AI development. As the speed of data transmission becomes essential to machine learning, fiber optic cables move through vast data centers like an invisible nervous system. The same networks extend across conflict-affected landscapes, where drones deploy shimmering fiberglass webs. By weaving together natural, artificial, and virtual elements, their work reflects on the material realities and broader implications of ongoing technological expansion. Atsiskirs nuo paveikslo paviršiaus ir nusileis lengvai siūbuodamas ant žemės aukso spalvos lapelis. Parodoje „Pievos ir akys“ norisi vaikščioti ant pirštų galų. Ir ne tik dėl pūkų ir sintetikos erdvėje išsiplėtusio nerangaus kūno, galinčio lengvai kliudyti banguojančią iš lengvų kartono lakštelių suaustą Gabrielės Černiavskajos parodos architektūrą, ar vieną iš Kazimieros Zimblytės reljefinių paveikslų „kalnierių“. O dėl pačioje menininkių Rose Lowder ir Kazimieros Zimblytės kūrinių vidinėje sąrangoje užkoduoto nebylaus trapumo. Pasitelkdamos grakščią trapumo inžineriją, menininkės konstruoja darbus, kuriuose jos pačiumpa patį laiką ir įaudžia jį į paveikslų ar kino juostų paviršių. The hybrid materials they use correspond to the hybrid bodies that surround us. For their current solo exhibition 'Thresholds', @pakui_hardware developed a photographic series that explores the concept of membrane, with a focus on photographic surfaces , such as film and layers of silicone. ⁠ ⁠ Once printed and mounted on aluminium, portions of the frame’s glass are then covered with a layer of silicone before framing, creating a similar effect to the large-scale kinetic sculptures.⁠ ⁠ 'Thresholds' is on view at carlier | gebauer, Berlin, until Saturday, 20 December. ⁠ The exhibition is financed by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.⁠ ⁠ Photos © Andrea Rossetti & Roman März

This image radiates the Sun and heat that makes Bukhara an oasis in the middle of the desert. Magic and majestic it is now a host of contemporary art made by artists from all around the world in collaboration with local craftsmen. For the sculptural installation “Black Bile” we worked with the legendary @rakhimovs_studio family. Now the gallbladder-shaped sculptures are the vessels for the healing sounds that fill the Caravansarai space. The inaugural @bukhara.biennial is curated by Diana Campbell (@dhakadiana ) and it runs until November 20th. Sound engineering by Alius Bareckas.
