@_matteosedda_ ‘s F U C K M E B L I N D explores the dynamics of a very specific kind of desire. And, without using words, it tells a universal story, one that reflects the experience of countless LGBTQIA+ people throughout history.
During Tuesday’s sero-talk at the queer festival
@orlandobergamo , Matteo explained how his idea was not only to pay tribute to the work of Derek Jarman, but also to exorcise a personal trauma connected to his own experience of living with HIV.
The truth is that this trauma inevitably lives inside all trans*, gay, and bisexual people, regardless of their HIV-status. The AIDS epidemic left a wound in the collective unconscious and in the way we all approach sexuality, even for those who did not directly live through those tough years.
The more we’ll be able to confront it together and process it collectively, the more we may learn to recognize when we are driven by vital impulses and by a deep need for connection, and when, instead, we are moved by sexual urges that long for oblivion, dissolution or death. Not that it’s possible to solve the eternal tension between Eros and Thanatos, but still… understanding it a little better certainly can’t hurt.
Anyway, huge congratulations
