BBC and UCL are partners in East Bank, the UK’s newest cultural quarter at the heart of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. In the lead up to the opening of the BBC’s new music studio, the BBC Singers and BBC Symphony Orchestra are collaborating with three east London schools, Bobby Moore Academy, Hillyfield Primary Academy and St Winefride’s Catholic Primary School, exploring music-making in these communities. On Friday 6 October 2023 around 100 children from these schools performed with the BBC Singers in a celebration of planet Earth at the UCL East Marshgate building. The backdrop for the performance, entitled Earth, Air and Moon, was the magnificent 8-meter wide Gaia globe artwork by Luke Jerram that gently spins in the building’s vast atrium. This BBC and UCL event marks the first of many exciting collaborations.

✨ Throwback to FDR of A Night of Song and Praise ✨ We’re still smiling as we look back on our beautiful performance on 16 April at the City Hall. Sharing the stage for Autumn Symphonies: Song of Praise was truly a memorable and uplifting experience for AfriArts. 🎶 A heartfelt thank you to @conductor_nic for his outstanding leadership on the podium. Your professionalism and warm reception made us feel welcomed and valued from the very first rehearsal. We are also deeply grateful to the @voxcapetown for their kindness and friendliness throughout the project. Your openness, teamwork, and joyful spirit created such a positive atmosphere both on and off stage. It was a pleasure to sing alongside you! 🤝 And of course, thank you to everyone who supported, organized, and attended the performance. Moments like these remind us why we love making music together. Here’s to many more collaborations and shared stages ahead! 🌟 #afriartschorus #songofpraise #capetownevents

📣 A spectacular performance of Mendelssohn's Lobgesang raised the roof last night at City Hall with conductor Nicholas Chalmers showing us why he is such a revered choral conductor. Our very own Petrus Coetzee was given a hearty Cape Town ovation for his fantastic Bartok Viola Concerto. We're also very proud of the young musicians in the CPYWE for their beautiful curtain raiser with conductor Charlene Verster. A special thanks to our fantastic friends in the Afri-Arts and VOX Cape Town choirs as well as soloists Jason Atherton, Siphamandla Moyake, Nobulumko Mngxekeza and Zorada Temmingh. Thanks to the City of Cape Town for their generous support.
