(cont.) In January of this year, I had the immense privilege to create a piece for
@creative.nyc around the theme of HUNGER and DESIRE. It was commissioned to be read out loud amongst other artists, many of whom I respect and admire. It was the first time I ever performed my art in front of others. And It changed my life.
I then received another incredible opportunity to partner with a wonderful filmmaker, documentarian, and friend
@con_theman , with help from
@jasmine.thi , to create a two-part short film series to bring this piece further to life.
I am so grateful for these two for making space for me to share the evolution of the heart when we don’t get what we desire, ask for, have faith in, believe for, and pray — plead — with God for.
I believe these themes are deeply personal for every individual. There are stories of dreams fulfilled which encourage the soul. Yet there are also those of hope deferred and hearts sick. Hope and pain. I wrote this from a personal place — a field in which the soil has been watered with many tears. It was a laborious process to write this, but a truly rewarding and cathartic one. My hope is that you find some solace in hearing and reading these words—whether you are waiting on a promise, dream, hope, or have faced the crushing despair of these deferred.

• A feeling of discomfort or weakness caused by lack
• To have a strong desire or craving for something
• It sounds like emptiness, feels like a pang in the gut, and tastes like a mouthful of sand
• it’s the thing you’ve always wanted, but can never seem to get
• A strong wish for or want
• A desire; a strong feeling, worthy or unworthy, that impels to the attainment or possession of something that is (in reality or imagination) within reach: a desire for success.
• A craving which implies a deep and imperative wish for something, based on a sense of need and hunger. It’s similar to a craving for food, companionship, or success
