This is the culmination of so many things, all of my multitudes, my passions, and my dreams: One of the dearest and nearest people to me, despite whatever distance there may be, is my beloved comrade KC. I’ve known KC for over 10 years, essentially my whole adult life (just about anyway; I definitely admired her from afar before we became friends :~) We shared a room during a really significant time in both of our lives. And something that has really inspired me is her revolutionary deejay praxis. Whenever I see her flyers for her gigs she has coming up, a part of me always thinks, ā€œI really want to be able to have that many gigs so I can make a flyer like that of my own.ā€ Well… Here it is… I originally thought it would be static but I took this really cool video of an exhibit at Grizzly Grizzly in North Philly that I saw over the weekend called Four on the Floor featuring artists Zach Hill and Kim Miller. This video in particular showcases Miller’s part of the exhibit, which ā€œlooks to the dance floor as a place for experimentation, connection, and collective movement…considering the dance floor not just as a setting but as a living environment created through rhythm, proximity, and participation.ā€ Before I became a deejay, I was/am a dancer, which feels so bold and brave for me to say. It’s like how I finally see myself as an artist. The very first time I went out to dance when I was 18, I was sexually assaulted and consequently victim-blamed. I had always felt so shy and awkward when it came to dancing so for my first time putting myself and my body out there like that to be met with some dude putting his hand down my pants and then being told I was asking for it afterward was just… It was 2012: a sign of the times. It’s a miracle every time I cut a rug on the dance floor, just like every single breath I take is a miracle, just like waking up every day when it isn’t guaranteed is a God damn miracle. This is my very long-winded way of saying… I have five gigs this month… The first is tonight at Bob & Barbara’s. The second is the Uhuru Health Festival & Flea Market, which I have been organizing for nine years and deejaying at for five… And oh yeah…

A week ago, I flew to St. Louis… To attend the African People’s Socialist Party’s Plenary themed, ā€œThis Time ā€˜Til It’s Won! Power In Our Own Hands! It’s not just Trump, it’s the whole damn system!ā€ At this plenary, there were reports from every department in the movement, holding the work accountable and charting the course for a liberated future. There were also solidarity statements made by people from all walks of life, inside and outside the movement. Despite operating on a sleep deficit throughout my entire trip, I felt so energized by the revolutionary fervor of the African poor and working class. Many times I was moved to tears. I am not a child of the movement like some of my leadership in the Party but I do feel like I have grown up and matured with the movement over the past nine years that I have been a part of it. The majority of my adulthood has been dedicated to the African liberation movement and I intend to keep it that way ā€˜til it’s won. I also got to reconnect with one of my favorite people in the world, KC, as well as a couple other folks I met during Dweller this year (@cappason and @matcvibe I love y’all!). I met a bunch of new people too! And got to explore St. Louis as a dancer, music lover, and revolutionary deejay. I feel so inspired by this trip to not only continue to put myself out there but more importantly, to sing the Uhuru Movement’s praises in the face of all the haters, State-sanctioned and regular ol’ citizens alike, who will not stand in the way of black people liberating themselves on their own terms. Get with the program or miss out on a black socialist revolution IDGAF! What matters to me is that I continue to become a better person and win more people to support this truly anti-colonial, anti-capitalist, and anti-imperialist movement that’s not just shouting at imperialism but building to GOVERN RN! Freedom in the Chairman’s lifetime! Unity through reparations! No compromise! NO SURRENDER!

This #ThrowbackThursday, I wanna take a lil trip down memory lane with one of my dearest friends and comrades, KC šŸ’— I already wanna cry just thinking about our 10+ year friendship! We have experienced so much together and separately. And through it all, we have always, and unwaveringly, been there for each other. When I learned about Chairman Omali Yeshitela and the Uhuru Movement from our friend Muteba @tsblackpower , it was a no brainer to recruit KC into the @uhurusolidarity movement. I remember that day so clearly. I didn’t know it at the time, but it was during my last year living in Boston. Me and a couple comrades sat KC down and told her about the reparations work led by the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP). By the end, she was like, ā€œHow do I sign up?ā€ Then that raised a contradiction for me: I aligned with the Uhuru Movement as soon as I heard about it but hadn’t joined an organization within it yet. Right then and there, I was like, ā€œIt’s time for me to join the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement.ā€ And I have never looked back since. It’s been almost ten years of KC and me being in revolutionary organization together. I’m pretty sure we met sometime during 2013 or 2014 so we have spent so much more time together in this principled way than not and that is such a blessing and a gift. And we have the APSP to thank for that. How anyone could attack or doubt this movement that has an over 50-year-long track record of bringing people together from all walks of life under the banner of #UnityThroughReparations is beyond me. I’m so grateful to the Party for existing and leading the way forward to a liberated future for everyone. All of that to say, I have the honor of going to St. Louis for the Party’s plenary this weekend as well as deejaying a vinyl set with KC. It feels like the biggest full circle moment for me that I have experienced in a very long time. I’m eager to catch up with comrades and new friends. ā¤ļøšŸ–¤šŸ’š

Happy Aries Season / Astrological New Year :~) The Spring Equinox has graced us once again! This is my favorite time of the year because it is all about renewal. Starting things over. Doing it anyway. Aries is a cardinal fire sign, meaning it embodies dynamism and is always ready to take action. Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready, right? I’m mostly Earth and Water but I do have one Fire placement and that is my Mars in Aries, its planetary ruler, a fortuitous placement for me :^) Since I have become firmly post-Saturn return, and (ironically?) un(der)employed, I feel like I have been tapping into the bold, fiery nature of Aries. I am betting on myself, my talents and skills, and the things only I have to offer. And even though I am not the only person who deejays because they love music, I am the only one who shares it with the world in the way that I do. And I have the profound honor and privilege of doing so on the radio for the first time later today! What a gift! This came together a bit last minute but I’m grateful for the opportunity and the trust to fill in for my dear friend Vicenta while she plays at the Art Museum. You can tune in to hear me spin from 6-8pm Eastern on greatcircles.net šŸŒ€āœØ
