One of the things I love most about San Francisco is how homey it feels. I left Tehran as a teenager and moved around California for years, but nowhere really felt like home until I landed in SF. From the beginning, it was the sense of community that got me, the small neighborhood businesses, familiar faces, people genuinely supporting one another. Almost 20 years later, that’s still what I love. So much has changed, yet somehow the heart of the city feels the same to me. That’s why, when it came time to choose a location for our wedding photos, I knew I didn’t want a dramatic backdrop or a “picture-perfect” destination. I wanted something personal. I wanted our everyday joy. Our rituals. The walks we take, the places we return to again and again because they feel like us, Japantown Mall, strolling up Fillmore toward Broadway, catching those ocean views that never get old. And of course, Compton’s. Not every day… but most days 😉 It’s part of our rhythm. So taking photos there felt like a must. The always-kind staff even brought us hot cocoa on the house to use as a prop, honestly, the perfect touch. Colin loves to joke when we’re in other neighborhoods and asks if I’d ever consider moving. My answer is almost always no. Then he asks, “Is it because it’s not walking distance to Compton’s?” 🤭 Happy 5-year anniversary, Compton’s. Today is a big day for us at Comptons. Fillmore street officially turns 5 years old! It’s hard to put into words how big of an accomplishment this feels like for us given the road we’ve travelled on to get here. We opened in the middle of a global pandemic and world shut down, with no roadmap, no real business plan to speak of, just some delicious coffee and a really cool space. What has sprung from that has been more than amazing. Multiple stores, hundreds of customers served per day, and of course our 18+ amazing team members, all of it. So cool to see what everyone in our community has helped build :) We’re gonna be celebrating today with free drip coffee and sweet treats from @fillmorebakeshop (while supplies last) as a way to say thank you to everyone who has helped get us to this point. Everyone is going back to work tomorrow! This is how my rainy Sunday morning started today, a delicious cup of cappuccino at a cafe in North Beach. What an outstanding day for photography filled with surprises! 🙏
