Black love filled the room this Valentine’s Day at the Opening Reception for The Power of Love ❤️✨ The turnout was incredible and the energy was unmatched as we gathered to celebrate love in all its forms through the work of Black women artists. From the live jazz to the food, wine, and beautiful conversations — it was a night to remember. Missed opening night? The exhibition is on view through May 23rd — come experience it for yourself ❤️✨ And don’t forget our singles sip and paint happenings next Saturday! Tickets are in the link in our bio

This Sunday the Compton Museum staff decided to go volunteer at one of our local cemetery Lincoln Memorial to help clean it up for Mother’s Day. We also gave flowers to the mothers who were out there with us! ❤️🌹 These community clean ups happen every 2nd Saturday from 8am to 1pm for those looking to help out. Thank you to @themakershuborg for supplying the gardening equipment

In the spirit of giving back the museum will be doing a community initiative for each exhibition starting with this one The Power of Love ❤️ In the exhibition we showcase all formed of love from agape to storage. But we don’t particularly mention love for those who have passed away therefore next Saturday at 8am we will be volunteering our time to help clean up Lincoln Memorial a historic cemetery in the city. Come help mow the lawn, rack leaves, and empty trash with the help of @themakershuborg providing the equipment and power tools. This cemetary is all volunteer ran and has had multiple break ins and has been vandalized on numerous occasions. Let’s help show those who we love dearly rest well.

The Compton Art and History Museum presents “We Are The Land: Stories From The Street and Soil” This is an environmental exhibition that explores the legacy of environmental stewardship in Compton and surrounding communities. Through a blend of contemporary artistic expression, local history, and community memory, we invite local artists to submit their work that aligns to what environmentalism looks like in places too often excluded from mainstream narratives of conservation and sustainability. We are accepting a wide range of art mediums to painting, photography, digital, sculpture, and more! LINK IN BIO to submit! DM for any questions!

A museum in every hood isn’t a dream — it’s a necessity. Because when stories go untold, communities go unseen. And when artists aren’t supported, culture gets erased. We’re not just talking about access — we’re talking about ownership. About creating spaces where people can see themselves, their history, and their future all in one place. There can never be too many places that preserve truth, celebrate creativity, and hold space for community. So we’re building what we believe should’ve always been there.

A musuem in every hood isn’t just our slogan it’s something we truly believe in. Every neighborhood has stories that deserve to be told and artists that create work that perfectly embody what it’s like to live in that area. Just like there are never too many libraries we feel the same about museums.
