The fascinating story of how jewellery became central to defining the visual language of Vivienne Westwood will be explored in Vivienne Westwood & Jewellery, a major new exhibition opening at V&A Dundee on March 26, 2027. Curated by the house’s own team, the exhibition brings together four decades of archival and runway jewellery pieces shown collectively for the first time, highlighting how Dame Vivienne Westwood used jewellery as a radical extension of the body, identity and storytelling. Through necklaces, pearls, corsetry references, orb motifs and historically infused designs, the exhibition traces the maison’s distinctive dialogue between rebellion and tradition, past and present.
The immersive presentation will pair jewellery with archival fashion looks, runway imagery, sound installations, graphics and video, offering a deeper look into the subversive spirit that shaped the British house for decades. The exhibition will also spotlight Westwood’s enduring relationship with Scotland, a country that deeply influenced both her aesthetic and that of creative director Andreas Kronthaler, whose personal tartan “MacAndreas” reflects that connection. Vivienne Westwood & Jewellery positions jewellery as one of the maison’s most powerful creative languages: sculptural, political, theatrical and inseparable from the identity of Vivienne Westwood itself.
