Spectrehymnia is a piece concerned with what is and isnât âpianisticâ in a piece for piano, but without a pianist. Density and continuity are two primary concerns which manifest in different ways, beginning where Liszt left off with the âthird hand.â Composed for the 2026 outHEAR New Music Week and Prof. Winfried Ritschâs piano automaton, this piece refers to and is concerned with the âghost in the machine,â or the human within the non-human, and the Greek goddess Polyhymnia, the muse of sacred poetry and hymns. â HAB
