It’s Trans Day of Visibility, and coincidentally the 50 year anniversary of Rhode Island Pride. I can’t say it’s a particularly Happy day given the state of our nation and world, but I can say that I am happy, and grateful, to exist, and to have spent so much time getting to know myself in my own skin. It’s been a journey to grapple with identity, and trying to find what feels right. I am humbled to be able to exist loudly and openly, though make no mistake: I still walk with fear and grief in my heart for my queer siblings that cannot, and those that came before me to make room for us that were taken from us too soon. My pronouns are She/They always, and though I still use an outdated name on forms, and I have much work to do in deciding some things in the future, you may call me Complete. Remember my beloveds, you are not alone. Though the darkness can seem suffocating, we are bright and luminous beings that can dance through it. Take time to center yourselves, and use caution when funneling your anger to purpose. Our community is only as strong as our grip on each other, and the battle is long. Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind. I love you. So it’s been a full year since my open heart surgery to repair a defective aortic valve and aorta. I’m a Frankenstein these days with cadaver bits, but I’m feeling better than I have in literal years. I’m still so grateful for all the friends who checked in and continue to check in. How strange it is to be anything at all. Here’s a picture of me clowning around because it made me happy.
