Growing up, libraries were more important to me than school or - gasp - even playgrounds. They were a haven, offering up windows to worlds beyond the Lower East Side of New York. Both the Brooklyn library system and the New York City library system now carry It Was Her New York: True Stories and Snapshots, an honor beyond words.
On March 15th at 2pm, I will be presenting excerpts with slides from the photo-illustrated memoir, It Was Her New York at the Queens Central Library (check out the poster!). Please join me for this special reading. There will also be an Open Mic!
Through a mosaic of intimate photo-illustrated vignettes, It Was Her New York celebrates the fierce moxie of New Yorkers, a sixty-year-old hidden love between two women, the definition of home as it slowly disappears into gentrification and what it means to be family.
