🌷 ☂️ MAY EVENTS 🌹 🌼 at communication!
We have a very full month ahead of us - live music, art workshops, and drop-in community events aplenty. 🐸 see you soon! 🐦⬛
Have you wondered about our mask policy?
Here at Communication, we take our community’s safety seriously. In the midst of a summer COVID surge and mask bans popping up around the country, we wanted to reaffirm our commitment to making Communication as safe as possible for the community we foster.
Here’s what we promise:
Members of our Core Collective and our volunteer team are expected to wear high quality masks such as N95, KN95 or 3M Auras while working at Communication. This means no surgical masks, cloth masks, or bandanas. Why? We know that high quality masks decrease chances of transmission, and we want our actions to match our values.
Masks will continue to be required for everyone who comes to Communication. Quality masks are available for visitors, attendees, and volunteers in our space free of charge (shout out to the fine people @maskbloc608 for always keeping us stocked!). We do not want financial limits to be a barrier to safety.
Thanks to our friends @cleanair608 and those that donated to our Accessibility Campaign, we have a beautiful new air purifier in the gallery. We will run this during events and shop hours to improve air quality.
We keep us safe, friends! We are grateful to be in community with all of you.

Time to repost our House Rules for Communication. We hold these rules in physical spaces we're in and extend to virtual landscapes we inhabit as an organization. Please be mindful of these rules created for the safety of the community.
These House Rules have been posted since the creation of Communication so these aren't new. These are posted in the front retail space AND in our events/ gallery space
HOUSE RULES (first 2 slides hand painted signage)
1. No drinking on the property. This is a sober space.
2. No predatory behavior, harassment, racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia or ableism.
3. Do Not touch people without their consent.
Please speak to someone working in the space if you have any concerns. Consequences of breaking our rules may result in being escorted out of the space(s) with follow up from a member of the core collective at a later time. Any of our volunteers and core collective members are empowered to hold people accountable and enact these consequences. We can hold people accountable while holding space for learning and growth to take place.
To be clear these house rules and our mission means we take a hard stance against hateful behavior. If it has been unclear on social media this means we are a Pro- P4lestini@n space because we believe that Genocide is wrong. We appreciate witnessing the love, care and strength of community the P4lestini@n people model in the face of extreme force. Their fight is also ours, they are us.
We are anti-Zionist (hatred of a system) BUT NOT anti-Semitic ( hatred of a group of people) Please don't conflate these 2 things!!
We love you and hope these House Rules may be impactful in the space(s) you frequent in the next months and years.

MISCELLANEOUS OWL (@miscellaneous_owl ) is Madison-based singer/songwriter Huan-Hua Chye, who also sings and plays guitar and keyboards in indie-pop quintet Gentle Brontosaurus.
NEW STUDIO. SATURDAY MAY 31ST. NOON.
Canvas Quilts with @allyson.mills
No thread? No fabric? No problem! Participants will create a collage quilt, made with magazines, old book pages, maps, drawings, painted paper, and anything else they deem meaningful to them. Participants will cut their chosen materials into squares with press cutting tools (some will be pre-cut).
We will go over a few different types of patterns and their meanings, sharing the unique importance of barn quilts and how crafting quilt designs with certain imagery and pattern “sews meaning” together. Participants can write or draw worries, wishes, or intentions on the quilt’s backing, then ‘sew’ them into the quilt as their collage is pieced together. At the end, we will look at everyone’s squares together as if it were a full quilt!
🧚 MOSS EMBROIDERY: Transforming Textiles 🧚
with @dean.amethyst.art 💎
Saturday May 30, 1-3 pm 🍃
Are you interested in a fun, embroidery-based project to add an interesting and functional touch to thrifted and recycled textiles? Do you like free-form projects that are easy to wear while in progress? Join Dean Amethyst’s Moss Embroidery workshop at Communication to add moss embroidery to a textile of your choice! Bring your stained shirts, pants with holes in them, hats with a logo you want to cover up, or some other textile and add moss in this all-levels workshop. Together, we will strengthen our mending skills, learn some embroidery fundamentals (running stitch, French knot, etc), and have fun sewing as a group. Dean Amethyst (they/them) is an interdisciplinary queer and trans artist that would love to share their skills with you and support you in making art!
Tickets are sliding scale ♥️ and available now 🎟️
This Saturday we welcome @snaodz from Chicago, @blushbandwi and @blasfemme.music to our stage!
Hannah Sandoz’s arrangements weave tender lyrics and lush soundscapes for guitar, vocals, and laptop. Blasfemme is Madison’s beast from the east (coast), performing blasphemous & fabulous acoustic-punk glitter-core, original music of defiance & solidarity in the late-stage capitalist fascist takeover of the “burning ‘20s.”
We have a full May of peer to peer art workshops coming atcha!! Swipe to see more details, and check our site to reserve your spot 💞 SUPPORT ARTISTS SUPPORT YOUR LIL DIY COMMUNITY SPACE ty xo
