at this month’s crc we discussed: • feminism vs. womanism • the nuances of intersectionality • SHOULD black people be the leaders of the liberation movement? • differences between smut and romance and our leisure reads • our spiritual family (egbe) that we meet on this side of existence and so much more! a major thank you to everyone who came out and added to the conversation. there is so much we can learn from one another just from asking questions and listening to gain perspective. this is communal learning in real time. ✨ we meet the last sunday of every month. if you weren’t able to make it, we hope you can catch the next one 🙂‍↕️💫

randomly ran into a sidewalk sale at @kindredstorieshtx and found this gem for 5 dollaz! the appreciation for used books is real! and if they look loved on and read through already, it just adds another layer of depth to the emotional downloads while reading. this one looks like it could have been pulled straight off somebody’s tete’s shelf! and the cover?! 🥹😭 head over to kindred if you have time today! you may be able to find a good read for may for only $5-$10 dollars!

in my black liberation theology class we have been talking about womanist theology. womanist theology exists because black women issues were not highlighted or emphasized in black liberation theology, so we had to create our own. womanism itself exists because feminism did not include or highlight or emphasize black women, so we had to create our own. these are the themes that have been settling with me most as i move through this book. black women have a particular experience in society that people don’t “understand” so we get brushed under the rug. and don’t even get me started on being a black lesbian 🥲 i wonder if it is truly a lack of understanding or a lack of being able to empathize with black women. reading and discussing this alongside my personal reading of black women writers at work has emphasized the dire importance of black women using our voices and showing up for each other. i can’t wait to discuss more with you all on sunday at the crc. rsvp link in bio 🌸🌸

the woman’s history gems have been falling into my lap. from class, to work, to the reads brought by our very own crc members. the gems have been endless. also, i read a very interesting substack this week that reminded me that war is too nuanced for us to blindly stand on one side because our emotions are strong towards another. the world is too much of a spectrum for us to be living in black and white and we must hold space for multiple truths. i added some reads to compliment the substack and its sentiments. keep reading. keep learning. ✨✨✨

the first communal reading circle as seen from the eyes and heart of my nearest dearest sister-friend, Areybiah (@avachaura ). i couldn’t think of anyone better who could capture the magic of yesterday in a reel. a major thank you to @thirdwardblooms for opening your space for communal gathering and care. truly, i can’t express enough how filled i am with gratitude and affection for the people that came. in our first circle, we discussed what strength and resilience look like even if you feel you have no way out, the effect of social media on our attention spans and social dynamics, what it means to show up and be in community in an age where people are mostly interacting virtually in isolation, the natural ways we connect to the earth and animals and nature, and sooooo much more. it was as if the books everyone chose were in conversation with each other. the flow was effortless, and people were even able to connect with others who can help them on their personal endeavors — the true purpose of the communal reading circle. THIS is touching grass. our next meeting is march 29th. RSVPs open 2 weeks prior. we hope to see you at the next one 🙂‍↕️

gems from class on monday ✨ in slavery and race relations we take a deeper look into the way the entire enslavement process and mechanism shapes race relations and the way of the world today. from capital, to law, to how we’ve always resisted and how it relates to how we choose to define ourselves today. i can’t wait to see y’all at the communal reading circle tomorrow so we can discuss more 🙂‍↕️ RSVP link in bio if you’d like to join, we have a few spots left!
