Bite of the Week: food > formality Food strips away the formality. The long conference table becomes a little less intimidating when there’s something passed around it. The first dinner with someone you’re just getting to know becomes less of an audition when the focus shifts to what’s on the plate. The meal gives you something to do with your hands, something to talk about, a natural rhythm of pausing and sharing and somewhere in all of that, a relationship finds its footing. I think the best relationships are built in small, repeated moments. And so many of those moments happen at tables. Not over grand gestures, but over split desserts and refilled glasses and the easy conversation that comes when you’re both just a little full and comfortable. Food doesn’t just feed us. It introduces us to each other. Over and over again, in ways we rarely stop to notice. So here’s to the meals that quietly built something. And to the ones still doing that work right now.
