Start the day well Ashweta’s Green & Uji Matcha Granola A great question at Monday Tea Club this week - what tea to start the day with if you don’t drink black tea. My mind immediately travelled to Darjeeling & the safe hands of Ashweta and this light sweet green tea grown and made in Poobong. There are many ways to evaluate a tea but the heart of the tea maker and their dedication to@community & land must, in these times, be one of the most important Thank you @londonfoodfinds for posing this question and taking me to the hills of Darjeeling. This mornings wake up was pure perfection. Whatever you are doing today we hope you find time for tea 🌱✨

From Jingdezhen to our tea table Tao’s studio : Jingdezhen Jingdezhen : Jiangxi province, southeast China. When you look at its location, in a remote and hilly region, you question how it gained its fame, until you realize that Jingdezhen is close to the best-quality deposits of petuntse (porcelain stone) in all of China, as well as being surrounding by pine forests to feed the kilns. Better still, it also has a river system flowing N & S, which has provided easy trade for its fragile wares. Jingdezhen has been described as a ‘fantasy land for potters’ where ‘specialists in every aspect of production from moulding to glazing to firing are found’, and I would challenge any tea lover not to feel the sense of intrigue and excitement that I felt when first visiting the area in 2017 Today we are proud to work with a small selection of artisans from the region including young Tao. The video here shot by him and his partner in their studio perfectly shows the beautiful rituals and quiet moments that quality tea and teaware offer us.

Monday morning tea club Every Monday 7AM Simply a chance to come together at the start of the week, share tea & space. A reminder that a little time out, a deep breath, a cup of tea can bring peace within that we can the take out into the world. This morning drinking the second tea from our tea box for this season - a beautiful light and uplifting Qu Hao from Zhejiang China. This speciality green tea translates as Qi meaning curl and Hao meaning FOP [flowery orange pekoe]. The cup embodies the fresh, clean and precise approach that Mr Lang takes with his high mountain teas - delicious The village producing this tea is famous for organic tea - calling themselves the first place of organic tea in China. They started farming organically as early as 1990 & use no fertiliser only natural preparations. The tea bushes here are small and naturally grown. Even low grade of these teas must be picked by hand to a plucking standard of one bud one leaf [although they sometimes allow a small amount of one bud two leaves as long as they are not too long]. Heading along the top of the tea fields we sit on the mountain discussing Mr Langs motivation for organic production. ‘My Principles are no fertiliser and no pesticides’ he shares ‘Maybe within the first two or three years this means much more input and much less output and maybe less money. But now, after several years my reputation has grown and people will pay more for good tea. Year by year I know it will get better. We speak about the importance of feeling a connection to our cup and question how education is helping our children to question and explore where their food comes from. This weekend we invite you to join us for tea at our Dorset Tea House - we hope you can make it! Have a happy Monday Tea Friends - we appreciate you all! #tea #mondayteaclub

Tasting tea & sharing stories @bathmeaa Thank you to everyone who came to share tea today in the beautiful galleries of the @bathmeaa . We tasted teas from across our colllection and shared teaware from Fukuoka to accompany the current exhibition ‘Tea & Craft of Fukuoka’. We had wonderful discussions & enjoyed meeting tea friends old and new. These last few weeks Rob has shared several articles on ‘Tea For Health’ focused on tea chemistry & ritual over on our substack (link in bio) The next article will look at ‘community’ and today was certainly a true example of the community tea builds and how positive it is for all of us. If you are in Bath this coming week then be sure to call in to the museum to see the main exhibition ‘Reimaginings’ with @__hannahlim__ & our collaborative Fukuoka display alongside the other fascinating pieces in the collection. #tea #teaware #lovetea

The Benefits of Tea | 2. Ritual New article on Substack (link in bio) This is the second in a series of articles exploring the incredible tea plant and how the tea, the drink, can be a major positive in our lives. Our last article looked at how the chemistry of the magical leaf gives amazing benefits. In this article we will explore something that, in our experience, can provide even more of a positive: the ‘act’ of taking tea. In these changing, sometimes challenging times, we will be looking at how tea provides us with a ritual and why, this often overlooked yet simple act can be the basis for a healthier life.
