On this day in 1985, Seven Churches was released as the debut album of Possessed (
@possessed_official ) via Combat Records (
@combatrecs )
This album is considered as the pioneer record of Death metal. About.com listed this album as one of the 10 essential death metal records.
The album is described by the critics as "connecting the dots between thrash metal and death metal".
While Florida's Death (
@deathofficial ) had released more albums and is also cited as an enduring death metal progenitor, Seven Churches pre-dated Death's 1987 debut, Scream Bloody Gore by two years.
The title of the album refers to the "Seven churches of Asia mentioned" in the Book of Revelation.
The album is thematically connected to the 1973 horror movie 'The Exorcist'. (
@theexorcisttv )
The first track of the album "The Exorcist" begins with producer Randy Burns' version of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells, arranged and performed as it was in the movie The Exorcist.
Genre: Death Metal / Thrash Metal
Length: 39:17 Minutes
Tracks: 10
