NTSB Concerned about proper evacuation procedures after Frontier 4345
The NTSB has not yet determined whether it will open a formal safety investigation. The agency is currently gathering information about the evacuation process. Passenger behavior during the evacuation has drawn scrutiny. AFA president Sara Nelson cited concerns over passengers failing to leave carry-on bags behind, calling it deeply troubling.
The FAA issued a SAFO last September directing airlines to re-evaluate evacuation procedures regarding carry-ons, noting that bags slow evacuations, put lives at risk, and can damage emergency slides. The SAFO recommends airlines ensure safety briefings clearly instruct passengers to leave all carry-on items behind, conduct passenger outreach campaigns, and leverage their SMS to evaluate evacuation procedures.
AFA is conducting its own investigation into the incident. Measures such as locking overhead bins during flight have been considered previously but were not implemented due to safety concerns. An MSU Denver aviation expert described the crew's rejected takeoff as textbook, noting high marks for both the flight deck and cabin crew.
