Last year we started Thursdays @ the Shop - a free community event meant to bring folks together to enjoy and discuss all things creative. Open to the public, and sponsored by local businesses, this event is 90% money free. We offer our filming and/or post services to sponsors in exchange for their goods/time/support and it just goes to show - community wins the day at the end. Bringing people together for a good time in a safe space to enjoy music, drinks, food, smoke, and lots of entertainment makes my heart full. As one of Canada’s premiere DJ talents, Dopey spent 2006 – 2013 as an integral part of the Gemini Award winning TV show MTV Live. J-Tec, a turntablist and founding member of the Turntable Monkz, made his mark through battle circuits, radio shows, and high-profile performances alongside artists like Slum Village and Roy Ayers. With a legacy spanning competitions to club residencies, he continues to elevate crowds with genre-spanning sets and technical mastery. Art Show and Live Piece Noctiluca Zara @noctiluca.zara Zara is influenced by a wide range of artistic movements and styles. These include, but are not limited to, pre-and Islamic art, Art Nouveau, ceremonial East African masks, and more. Zara draws exclusively in black and white; her striking monochrome pieces bring clarity and contrast to a noisy world.⁠ She uses pen and ink, and occasionally also draws digitally. I rolled into 2025 with a cold but before the year was up I asked my husband to stop into @cftoeatoncentre to visit @aaniin.hello for their final pop up shop day. He came home just in time for me to post shower slip into THE COMFIEST streetwear I now own. Everything fit so amazing and the quality of the fabric of these basics is like no other. This is all on top of starting the conversation about buying Indigenous from Indigenous creators. Please don’t mind me as all I wear this year is @aaniin.hello !! Props to fellow female entrepreneur @iamchelseemarie for the vision to bring the first Indigenous owned department store to life. You’re an inspiration and your team are the sweetest people ever.
