⏲️🫗FOUND SOUND 💥🪵 This month's episode of Experimental Tunes and Children @rtm.fm looks at found sounds! Non-musical, everyday environmental noises—such as footsteps, keys, birds and machinery—recorded material manipulation or field recordings used in music compositions or sound design such as a foley. This episode looks at how these sounds and objects feature in live sound art, musique concrète, field recordings and various foley sound experiments created with children. 👉click in my LinkTree to listen 📡 Featuring!.. 🍈🍅The Hundred Club, Materials, Sounds, Action! , 2023 @taco_yap_yippeeee 🫯The Books- Thankyoubranch, 2011 📺🎤Mark Vernon, Static Cinema II, 2010 🍉💦Film for Foley family workshop, Popcorn! @whitechapelgallery 2025 🔪🚰Amon Tobin, Kitchen Sink, 2007 🗑️🥫Adam Bohman, Sharon Gal's Happening performance, 2009 Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry, Symphonie pour un homme seul, 1950 🍦🌪️Lia Kohl, Ice Cream Truck Tornado Siren, 2024

🌟➰🌟Me and my niece had a great time making and moving at Linda Bell: Loop. Swing. Shake. Remake @tate this week. SO SPARKLY AND SHINY. I had the pleasure to work on the Tate Kids Make video based on Linda's work. I can't help keeping all my crisps packets to use for their shine now! The show is on until 12 April and is free to visit. The video is in my LinkTree if you'd like to do some making at home too. 🌟➰🌟 @actionspace

🌧️🍫🍩😺Sound buttons were a revelation at Bang Splat Whoosh session on Saturday! We had lots of fun making sound effects and voice notes inspired by the images and activity around us and drawing our own pictures to attach to them. Also used to communicate with pets lol, they have an easy recording button at the back (could do with being bigger or highlighted) and big play button providing the immediacy and accessibility for different ages that I was looking for to keep the play flowing. Lots of potential for different ways of playing and layout, and no wires or heavy kit to lug around. Looking forward to doing more with these. 'Just scribbles nothing interesting! 🤖😲SPEECH🎤👅 This month’s episode of Experimental Tunes and Children focuses on the spoken word and airs @rtm.fm this Friday 20th February 3pm then up on mixcloud. Inspired by the act of learning to speak, it presents works that play with speech through repeated words and phrases, delivery style, word play, talking technologies and synthesised voices from educators, sound poets and musicians. Here's some of the acts that feature.. 📜Find your voice with Meredith Monk 👶🏽Babies first words with Miss Rachel 🐚Extending your voice with Pamela Z 💾 Synthesised speaking with Charles Dodge 🤠 Slow rambling with Jandek ☎️ Looping hellos? from Brandon Locher 📃Dad? The final indoor playtime space at Lansbury Laurence @bowarts named Creative Corner via a suggestions box and arts council vote. Other suggestions included Mambojunglemumble, jungle garden and some other long ones I can't remember that I personally preferred😏. While we were developing our ideas they learnt to hand and machine sew cushions and appliqué net curtains in a sea theme to mark off the space but still see what's happening around them. We created a cosy book and board games corner with handmade cushions of various sizes ( small squishies were their favourite to make) beanbags and round floor table..lounging on the floor was a v popular request. Space themed craft and games storage, a zip line between the pillars for sending messages and drawings, an art making table with drawing prompts from the children's impromptu drawings and noticeboard gallery. Colourful vinyl windows of nature themed imagery. Looking forward to seeing how it changes through its use! Feems too tidy in these pictures!

Last autumn I worked with the young people's art council at Lansbury Lawrence school in Poplar and @bowarts . Teachers had noticed that some children would come in from playtime and seem unhappy. The school conducted research about playtime, which revealed that some students found outside play stressful and preferred to be indoors. Working with the school arts council of 16 year 4 and 6 students we had the opportunity to develop and install an indoor creative space. Here's some of the ideas they had for the space...lots of activities, relaxing but lots of colour, sewing, threading, reading, area, beanbags, slime, lots of board and cards games and nature themed- ocean, jungle and forest all rolled into one.

Exploring the River Thames with students from @mayflowerschool @bowarts through paint mixing, mark making, collage and modelling to make a final artwork for the school. Excited by the introduction of the fish today! Felt like all our conversations about wildlife, pollution, treasure and detritus all came together! 😅

🌿🦋A trip to India!🐚🥥 A new episode of Experimental Tunes and Children airing this Friday 28 November 3pm @rtm.fm then up on mixcloud. This one is a mix of recordings I made during a trip to Gujurat last year. Moving through sounds from bell makers and weaver family workshops in Kutch, including special performances of their folk songs.Transport, toys, demos of Indian drumming styles, renditions of Indian children's traditional and contemporary songs, and rural and urban ambience.✨💫 Much thanks to Kuldip and family @kutch_adventures_india and Spence @explore.connect.create for introducing game to all her lovely friends! 🌟Had a bit of hiatus from making these but happy to be back researching, collecting and recording again! 🐸

🧶Earlier this year, @tanyanwilson created a series of illustrations for us to use in our marketing for Bang Splat Whoosh. The illustrations reflect time spent supporting @colourcollider in her sessions at Waterways Children's Centre - featuring broccoli telephones, and toddlers engaging in audio and material play. Also represented are tasters of @amy.bik 's session 'Ball'  - featuring Amy's provocations stemming from Frobel's gifts. 🌞Head to our stories to see how @piggybankshoe transformed these into fliers for our sessions. 💥Bang Splat Whoosh is a free creative studio for 2-4 year olds and their families, produced by @tracey_aint_coming_out ! in partnership with @betterchildrenscentres_east , and made possible by @youthmusicuk Energiser Fund.
