We are incredibly proud to share that Colossal Academy is officially WASC Accredited.
This milestone means so much to us because innovative education models often don’t fit neatly into traditional systems built for a very different era of schooling. One of the biggest challenges has been finding ways to quantify and communicate the things we know matter deeply — relationships, experiential learning, entrepreneurial thinking, community connection, real-world application, belonging, and student agency alongside strong academics.
Throughout this process, WASC truly saw us. They understood that education can evolve while still maintaining rigor and accountability. They asked thoughtful questions, held space for innovation, and recognized that meaningful learning can happen both inside and beyond traditional classroom walls.
We are deeply grateful to our students, families, staff, and community who believed in this vision from the beginning.

Play is an activity that is done for enjoyment, exploration, or creativity rather than for a specific goal or requirement. It is usually voluntary, flexible, and driven by imagination or curiosity.
Play can take many forms, including physical activities (like running, sports, or tag), imaginative play (pretending, role-playing, storytelling), and social play (games with rules, teamwork, or group activities). It helps children experiment with ideas, practice real-life situations, and express emotions in a safe way. Through play, kids learn problem-solving, communication, and how to interact with others. It also allows them to explore their environment and build confidence by trying new things without fear of failure.
Why it’s good for kids to get their energy out:
Kids naturally have a lot of energy, and play gives them a healthy way to release it. When children are physically active, it supports their overall health by improving strength, coordination, and fitness. Letting kids “burn off” energy also helps them focus better afterward, especially in school or structured settings. It can reduce restlessness, improve mood, and lower stress or frustration. Overall, play helps kids feel balanced—both physically and mentally—so they can learn, behave, and grow more effectively.

Today, our class took on a challenge: 1,000 coin flips.
Not for the answer… but for the understanding.They tracked every flip, counted outcomes, built ratios, and watched probability unfold in real time.
Heads. Tails. Again and again.
At first, it felt unpredictable.
But slowly… patterns began to emerge.
They saw how experimental probability starts to approach theoretical probability.
They felt what “50/50” actually means—not as a concept, but as lived experience.
This is what learning looks like when it’s hands-on, collaborative, and real.

Today, trigonometry stepped out of the textbook and into the real world.
Our students built their own clinometers and used them to measure the height of tall objects by calculating the hypotenuse—turning angles and lines into something tangible and real. What once lived on paper became a tool for understanding the world around them.
