Nature’s Memory, published by Quite Contrary Press, is part of CODEX’s consignment program. To view it in person, email [email protected] to make an appointment. For more information or to purchase, visit codexfoundation.org/store/consignment. Nature’s Memory, the third in a series of hand cut accordion books by Tony V. Bellaver documenting clearcut sites, contains photographs of a site in Northern California. With the flexible accordion structure and cut text across pages, the reader is met with continually unfolding pockets of space evocative of humankind’s perpetual extraction of natural resources. When the book is fully unfurled, a short but striking sentence about the effects of this reality is revealed.

I Know How to Be Helpful by Roni Gross of Z’roah and other collaborators is part of CODEX’s consignment program. To view it in person, email [email protected] to make an appointment. For more information or to purchase, visit codexfoundation.org/store/consignment. I Know How to Be Helpful utilizes a variety of mediums, intentionally butting up against one another, to conjure the experience of loosing innocence due to external experiences, particularly as a girl. In the case of this interpretation, this experience is one of a horror, made visible by the gradual replacement of abstract gray marks with a sunny natural scene by Peter Schell. Lisa Wujnovich’s writing adds tangibility to the narrative.
