2025 will forever be my “Freebird” year.
This year was my best year yet. Full of love, growth, and changes. I could talk for hours about my personal growth and changes I dealt with in 2025, but this is one I will share. If you know me well, you know this story on a deeper level, but this is a simplified version:
The first few months of 2025, I was in and out of the hospital for an unknown reason. I would vomit nonstop for 1-2 weeks straight, unable to eat or drink anything. I was on fluids and pain medications to stop the continuous twisted, nauseating stabbing stomach pain. I have never experienced physical pain worse than this. After multiple long, dreadful hospitalizations, I realized I developed a relatively rare condition called CHS (Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome). On May 19, 2025 I quit marijuana and have been clean ever since.
After quitting, I dealt with my finale of horrific CHS symptoms until the first day of our NY trip (June 4). I remember being upset about how ill I felt at Niagara Falls. I was concerned about hiking Watkins Glen the next morning in that condition. Thankfully, the universe was in my favor and the next day I felt completely better and could hike. After staying sober, I haven’t experienced CHS symptoms since.
That NY trip was a trip I will forever cherish. An awakening moment was when Andrew and I spent a day in the Adirondacks. We hiked up one of the mountains to a mine during a downpour. Along the way, we saw an abundance of beautiful wetland critters. Newts, toads, slugs, you name it! When we got to the top of the mountain, I took in the view and just bursted in tears. I cried out “this is the most beautiful place I have ever been!” In that moment, I realized life is magnificent. I finally felt real emotions without my overprescribed meds or marijuana changing the chemistry of my brain, I was my authentic self. For the first time, I felt… free.
Ever since that moment, I continue to hold so many moments with gratitude.

Last week we held a concert to commemorate the release of my SAVE! Album and it nearly sold out. Both dropping the album and performing it for the first time was surreal! It was an emotional time for me and I’m proud of the night it came to be.

I can’t believe we’re already wrapped. This has been such an amazing journey and I’m so glad I got to share it with everyone on this team. It means the absolute world to me that all of you put so much into helping make this story of mine come to life. I can’t express enough how much this means to me.
It started as just a short story at MPI two years ago for my thesis film. I never thought I’d have so many people that would believe in me and this project, but here we are now at the end of it all with so many memories that I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.
This entire crew is so special to me. I can’t thank you guys enough for everything you’ve done for this project.
And this cast… you guys are so talented and so amazing to work with. Thank you all for taking these characters and bringing them to life in ways I never could have imagined.

What a ride this was. This was the first feature film I’ve worked on and what a great opportunity it was. If I had to summarize this experience I would say good people. Thank you all for the laughs and great collaboration. I can’t wait to see where this goes.

tongue tied is wrapped! congrats to the cast and crew, this has been such an insane journey and experience, i can’t believe it’s come to a close.
austin, you should be so incredibly proud of yourself. you crafted such a captivating, unique story with such beautiful characters, storylines, and messages. i remember when you sent me the script over a year ago, i quite literally could not put it down. every word was entrancing and so well written, i couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. i read it all in one night and fell in love with your flawless ability to tell a story.
i was so excited and honored to have been asked to be your assistant director and through a years worth of preproduction, laughter, stress, joy, and everything…i don’t regret a second of it! this has been a huge learning experience, i am so grateful and glad for it. thank you for sharing this story, austin. the world is going to love it.
