Story-time:
Back in 2015 I took my mom to see my favorite show, Jersey Boys (2). As Bob Gaudio entered, I leaned over and said āthis is my dream role.ā A year later, I was on the road playing my dream role in my dream show. I was lucky enough to play that guy for 2 years before I decided it was time to move on.
Now, once you do Jersey Boys, itās like a machine, every theatre across the country is asking you to do it somewhere from Lovelock, Nevada to Medicine Hat, Wyoming. I always said āif I ever do this show again, itād have to be
@themuny ā
Smash cut to earlier this year when
@babyhandsbigdreams asks me if Iād be willing to give Nick Massi a crack for the upcoming production of JB at The Muny.
I mean, going from singing Tenor to Bass was nice. But youngest of the 4 to the oldest? Ouch. š
You know what? Hell yeah. Sign me up.
Now Iām typing this out on my flight home after 3 of the best weeks of work. Vacation? No, it was work, but it sure as hell didnāt feel like it. And whatās more is I got to revisit a show that I love so so deeply, a show that kinda made me the guy I am today because of the people, the experiences and T he work that never felt like work. I was given a gift this summer to hear dialogue that Iād heard a thousand times over in a new way, partly because of our brilliant cast and creative team but also cuz of the man Iām continuing to grow into.
And to do it all with such a phenomenal group, for 11,00 people a night? Cmon. You kidding me?
Idk if Iāll ever do this show again. Not because I donāt love it anymore, I love it more now than ever before, but because Iāve had it so damn good both times. I donāt wanna ruin that streak. Who knows, Iām just grateful to have *gotten to check off so much of my bucketlist with one show. (*āā¦killed so many birds with one stoneā felt craaazy to say.)
Anyway, if youāve made it this far, thanks for joining me on this ride, whenever you joined, as my dreams continue to come true. Lucky lucky boy.
PS - second to last video is from my first week on tour 2016, fuckin up the choreo on the news.
