A book about Eric’s Trip I enjoyed very much reading. One of my favorite 90s indie rock bands from Moncton, a little town in Canada. The wonderful music of Rick, @julie.e.doiron , Chris, Ed and Mark between lo-fi, folk, noise rock and psych with a little Sonic Youth influence! (Eric’s Trip is a song on Daydream Nation) 🎸🥁 out of / Parrallel to Eric’s Trip, there was also Rick’s solo stuff, Elevator to Hell, Moon Socket, Broken Girl, Julie Doiron and more! ✨
This passionated book by Jason Murray that lived saw the evolution of the band first hand in Moncton, is also about letting your emotions flow, being earnest doing music, making art for the beauty of it, believing in what you do, sticking to your guns, and how a creative band from a little nowhere town in the Maritimes influenced a whole alternative music scene with a long lasting influence in Western countries.
How they sound like!?
Listen to Love Tara, their first album, a beautiful masterpiece, that was released in 93 on @subpop - first Canadian band to be signed on the indie label in the grunge days.
And if you love it, you have to listen to their earlier Tapes! 📼 Tons of fuzz, noise, folk and melodies underneath. 🙂↔️ There is a Rick’s archive on Bandcamp I can give you the link.
If you like lo-fi and indie rock from the 90s or wanna discover some, I did a mix with many of my US/CANADA fave bands from that amazing era. 🔥/cobeia/90s-indie-rock
This is a difficult post, but one I have to make to go on with life. I owe it to her and I owe it to me. It’s Mother’s day this Sunday and my mum’s birthday was just the other day. ✨ Tragically, a year and 3 months ago she died as a consequence of two consecutive accidents where she fell, but also because of severe problems in her life taking a big toll on her.
I love(d) her very much and she is my biggest inspiration. I miss her dearly, and owe her a lot of whom I am today.
With her death, the sky fell on my head and my life changed, not only an immense grief like I was pulled apart, but a very complicated family situation as well I have to cope with since then. It was a huge blow to me and only a handful of friends got to know it with the months passing. Many still don’t know, for a very long time I couldn’t tell, it was beyond my ability and strength. I couldn’t even acknowledge it.
This picture represents the dark times I went through for months and months after my mamma’s death. I had to take a lot of time for me while navigating very complex things. If you caught me in the last year and I seemed strange or not really there, now you know partly why.
My mother wasn’t on socials, she always liked her privacy and didn’t like to be exposed, therefore no picture of her here, although I would like very much to celebrate the wonderful person she was. ✨ This is a first step…
Such a wonderful woman and soul, always trying to bring harmony and putting the well being of her loved ones and people around her before herself. She had a lot of class, both morally and aesthetically. Gisèle had a very good temper, was creative, very open minded, loving, generous, had an understanding for others and a talent for balancing things out. She had a real knack for making things beautiful around her, loved reading, animals, cooked wonderfully and had a big green thumb. 🌺 I’m trying hard to follow suit. 🌱
Not such a happy mother’s day… 👩 but one I celebrate in my own way with this post that was a longtime coming. Will have some wine in her honour tonight, she loved drinking and cigarettes too! 🥂 Mi manchi molto sai, ti vogliooo tantooooo beneeee! 💕
Been picking up books again lately, very much enjoying reading old ones I come across, feels good and grounded. ✨ This book tells the story of Akhenaten and Nefertiti, their try at a new start, founding the brand new city of Amarna for a more just and equalitarian society for men and women, refusing conquests and wars during his reign and furthering the monotheistic cult of Aton that his mother, the Queen Tiy, had introduced him to. In doing so he revolutionized ancient Egypt for a short time, thus breaking away with two thousands years of the cult of Amon, its powerful clergy and the many other Gods.
Nefertiti, his Queen and equal, was always represented the same size as him on statues and Akhenaten didn’t had a harem.
A vision, a dream that lasted only 14 years and ended up in ruins with the death of Akhenaten, the city destroyed by a further successor, the general Horemheb, when he became Pharaoh himself, after Tutankhamen (called Tutankhaten before the restoration of Amon), possibly Akhenaten’s nephew, died without heir at 18 only.
Nefertiti, forgotten, remained living in the roubles, on the outskirts of the city with a scribe, Boubastos, who wrote down her thoughts and memories until she died.
Partly true story, partly fictionalized by the author, Andrée Chedid, this charmingly hazy account strives to be both, real and imaginary. ✨
Ancient Egypt fascinated my mother, and she knew a bit about Akhenaten and Nefertiti, I think we even visited once a little exhibition about Amarna at the MAH museum in Geneva. She would have much enjoyed this book, this post is dedicated to my warmhearted mamma for her birthday. ❤️
